Kevin Brown breaks silence ahead of Orioles broadcast return

Orioles announcer Kevin Brown has ended his silence.

And for those looking for any juicy comments following Brown’s alleged suspension for reportedly irking team ownership, they will have to wait.

Brown tweeted Friday he has “mutual respect” with Orioles managing chairman John Angelos and attempted to sweep the incident under the rug, stating the media has “mischaracterized” his relationship with the team.

“O’s fans – I’m a storyteller. And never want to be a part of the story. The most compelling story in baseball right now is the story of the league-leading Baltimore Orioles – the best, most exciting young team in the American League,” Brown wrote on X, formerly Twitter, in his first public comments since disappearing from the MASN airwaves in late July.

“Unfortunately, recent media reports have mischaracterized my relationship with my adopted hometown Orioles. The fact is that I have a wonderful relationship with the organization, and our ownership and front office has fully supported me since 2019 when I first came aboard.

“I ask that everyone disregard the distracting noise of the past few days. I have worked closely with O’s SVP Greg Bader for the past four years, and John Angelos and I have a solid dialogue based on mutual respect. We are all good here in Birdland!

“I am proud to be an Oriole and call Baltimore home, and there is no place in baseball I’d rather be now and for the long haul. Go O’s!”

OutKick reported Friday that Brown will read a statement during Friday’s broadcast in his return to the booth before the Orioles face the Mariners.

Brown, the Orioles’ play-by-play announcer, has not called an Orioles game on MASN since July 23 after reportedly frustrating team ownership with comments about the Orioles’ lack of success against the Rays at Tropicana Field in previous seasons.

The announcer appeared on the team’s radio broadcasts for the following series against the Phillies, but he has not been heard since.

Brown’s absence unified baseball friends against the team’s reported decision to remove the Syracuse graduate over relatively innocuous comments.

The announcer recited stats featured in the team’s game notes for their July 23 game against the Rays, and the MASN broadcast even featured an accompanying graphic that read “Trop-ical Depression.”

The stats showcased the Orioles struggles over the previous two seasons at Tampa’s Tropicana Field.

The Angelos family believed it made them look cheap and Brown was taken off broadcasts, according to The Athletic.

Announcers such as Gary Cohen and Michael Kay admonished the Orioles for their actions, a sore spot in an otherwise Cinderella season.
