The Lions might want to sign Jack Campbell’s new fiancée, Megan Meyer, to bolster their defense.
The internet is buzzing over a viral video that showed Meyer tackle Campbell — the former Iowa Hawkeyes linebacker selected by Detroit at No. 18 overall in the 2023 NFL Draft — while the rookie was wakeboarding.
In the video, Campbell, at 6-foot-4, 249 pounds, can be seen flexing while showing off his skills on the water, before Meyer tackled him with impressive form.
Meyer, a senior guard for the Drake University women’s basketball team, leaped off a moving boat and speared Campbell, with the two crashing into the water.
NFL Twitter is raving over Meyer’s athleticism, with some joking that Detroit should’ve used their second of two 2023 first-round draft picks to add her to the roster.
“I think the wrong one got drafted in the 1st round,” one person wrote.
“Great form tackle,” another tweeted, while someone added, “She’s badass.”
One meme compared Meyer’s tackle to a WWE move.
“Excellent form! Textbook technique,” one user tweeted.
“You know AG [Lions defensive coordinator, Aaron Glenn] and [linebackers coach] Kelvin Sheppard are gonna show this tape for the crew.”
Campbell is looking to earn a starting job in Glenn’s defense when he attends his first NFL training camp next month.
The couple has a lot to celebrate this summer after the linebacker proposed at West Okoboji Lake in their native Iowa.
Meyer announced the engagement in an Instagram post on Monday, and showed off her stunning oval-cut diamond ring.
“Here’s to the official start of FOREVER!!” she wrote in her caption. “So excited for this next adventure together💍🤍.”
Campbell and Meyer have been dating since at least early 2021, according to her Instagram.
Campbell, a two-year starter for the Hawkeyes, recorded 143 tackles as a junior in 2021 and 128 in his senior year.
He became the first Hawkeyes player to win the Butkus Award as the nation’s top linebacker this past season.
Campbell joins a Detroit defense that ranked 29th against the run last season (146.5) and 30th in average yards per carry allowed (5.22).
As for Meyer?
The senior guard started eight games for Drake before sustaining a season-ending knee injury.
She averaged 12.9 points across eight games.
Meyer played two years at Iowa before transferring to Drake — and was first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference in her junior season.
