English pro golfer Charley Hull channeled PGA Tour star John Daly while signing autographs at the U.S. Women’s Open on Tuesday.
Hull, who is No. 8 in the LPGA world rankings, had a cigarette in her mouth while greeting fans at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania, as seen in a photo making rounds on social media.
Nelly Korda, the top-ranked golfer on the LPGA Tour, pulled up the photo on her phone and showed it to Hull and fellow golfer Megan Khang, with the trio sharing a moment of laughter on the course.
Social media naturally had a field day over the moment, with many golf fans chiming in on X.
“Charley Hull ripping a heater while singing autographs. Legend,” one user wrote on the platform.
“Dude she just lit up another in front of me,” another person wrote, including a photo of Hull holding a cigarette during the U.S. Women’s Open.
Elsewhere, one fan at the U.S. Women’s said, “That’s John Daly-esque,” in a video posted by Golf.com.
Daly, a two-time Major winner, is known for lighting up cigarettes during tournaments.
The 58-year-old Daly went through two packs of cigarettes during the first round of the PGA Championship earlier this month at Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville, Ky., according to The Athletic.
Daly withdrew from the tournament ahead of the second round on May 17 — the same day world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler was arrested outside Valhalla while trying to enter the course.
Hull was seen walking with what appeared to be a cigarette in her hand during the Mizuho Americas Open earlier this month in Jersey City, N.J. — which Korda won by a stroke over Hannah Green.
The 28-year-old Hull has won on the Ladies European Tour three times and the LPGA Tour twice.
She picked up a golf club for the first time at the age of 2 and turned pro in 2013 — the year she won the Ladies European Tour Rookie of the Year award.
Hull was diagnosed with ADHD last year and explained how she uses fitness to manage her symptoms.
“When I feel like I’m struggling, I go to the gym,” Hull told Sky Sports in an interview in April. “I decided not to take any medication as I feel that I can manage it myself. One of the biggest things for me is routine. That’s why the job that I have works well in that my days have a regular structure to them.
“When I’m away on tour, I can get into a really good routine and that helps me enormously. I have a better understanding of myself in terms of what works for me and what does not. I know how important routine is for me and I’m better at scheduling and planning so that I can be as healthy as possible. I put myself first. I know my triggers and how to cope. I just do me.”
Hull, who has more than 434,000 followers on Instagram, is interested in fashion and described her style as “unapologetic.”
The 2024 U.S. Women’s Open begins Thursday and runs through June 2.
