The first day of the new “Undisputed” lineup brought the expected fireworks.
Longtime host Skip Bayless was joined by Michael Irvin, Keyshawn Johnson and Richard Sherman on Monday in the first episode of the FS1 program since Shannon Sharpe’s June departure.
It did not take long before Irvin and Sherman were at each others’ throats.
When discussing Cowboys wideout CeeDee Lamb, Irvin said he encouraged the receiver to catch passes into his body in lieu of outstretched arms, in the hope of evading drops.
That’s when Sherman injected and said, “That’s the worst advice I’ve ever heard for a receiver!”
Naturally, the discussion exploded from there, with the Cowboys’ legend standing up from his seat and shouting at the top of his lungs.
“How are you gonna tell me that’s the worst advice? I’m only one of the best to ever do it!” Irvin exclaimed.
The Hall of Fame receiver then continued to yell that he has won championships at every level while Sherman interrupted that, as a defensive back, catching balls into your body actually makes it easier for him to wrest it out.
Monday’s clash between Irvin and Sherman illustrates that Bayless does not have to be in the middle of every argument — certainly, he’ll be in the arena plenty — but there will also be segments where he’s a bystander.
As Irvin and Sherman, a former NFL cornerback, also debated how Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott should feel following the acquisition of former 49ers first-rounder Trey Lance, Johnson chimed in while Bayless went more than two minutes without getting a word in edgewise.
Irvin ultimately issued a modest apology for taking up so much of the air space.
“I’m sorry — I haven’t been on TV in a while!” he explained.
Bayless confirmed last week that Irvin would be joining “Undisputed.”
Irvin, 57, was sidelined by NFL Network after being accused of making lewd remarks toward a hotel employee during Super Bowl week in Arizona this past February.
He has denied wrongdoing, and it remains to be seen if he will be back on-air at NFL Network in time for football season.
The Post’s Andrew Marchand confirmed earlier this month that Sherman, 35, would be joining “Undisputed” and he would participate in around 50-100 shows per year, mostly during football season.
As for Johnson, 51, he’s now Bayless’ full-time partner following his layoff from ESPN earlier this summer.
Sharpe, meanwhile, is slated to make his “First Take” debut with Stephen A. Smith next week.
