Raiders linebacker Robert Spillane had plenty to celebrate following his team’s 16-12 win over the Jets on “Sunday Night Football.”
After getting the game-clinching interception to rally past the Jets in Las Vegas, Spillane announced that he and his wife, Shelby, are expecting their first child together.
“My wife is actually pregnant,” Spillane said during his postgame interview with NBC Sports’ Melissa Stark. “So we get to tell the world tonight that my beautiful wife will have our first baby here in June, so I’m looking forward to it.”
Spillane was smiling from ear to ear while revealing the exciting news.
His wife was seen on the NBC Sports broadcast filming the big play on her phone while in the stands at Allegiant Stadium.
Spillane had the play of the game to help the Raiders secure their second straight win in the post-Josh McDaniels-era and move to 5-5 on the season.
He picked off a pass from Jets quarterback Zach Wilson with less than two minutes to play in the fourth quarter on a potential game-winning drive.
After Spillane’s interception, the Raiders failed to run out the clock but the Jets’ Hail Mary attempt as time ran out was incomplete.
It was his third interception of the season — and came after he had surgery on a broken hand last week.
“I’m a football player. Football players play football games,” Spillane said of playing through injury. “They play hurt, they play injured.
“I learned that at a very young age. … It’s an honor and a privilege to go out there, so I never want to miss an opportunity to be on the field.”
Spillane ended the night with his and Shelby’s pregnancy news, which went viral across social media.
The couple tied the knot on June 25 in Chicago, according to Spillane’s Instagram.
The next month, he reflected on their nuptials in a post, which included a carousel of photos from their offseason celebrations.
“WHAT AN OFF-SEASON!!!!!” Spillane wrote in July. “I am beyond blessed!!!
“From traveling the world, moving to Vegas, marrying my best friend and the love of my life, spending time with family!! So much to be thankful for!
“This next chapter of our lives is sure to be exciting and I am just so excited for football camp to start back up tomorrow! The game that I love is here!!! It’s now FOOTBALL SEASON!!!!!! #LFG #MoreLife #Grateful I love you Shelby Spillane, you mean the world to me!!”
Spillane signed with the Raiders on a two-year deal worth up to $9 million — with over $4 million guaranteed — in March after four seasons with the Steelers.
