Ryan Reynolds is a football fan. The actor finally revealed what it was like to attend the Kansas City Chiefs game against the New York Jets with Taylor Swift amid the singer’s romance buzz with tight end Travis Kelce.

“It’s a lot of fun,” the actor, 46, told Extra at the 2023 Bring Change to Mind Gala in NYC on Monday night. “NFL right now is reaching a kind of fever pitch, you know, that you usually only reserved for the Super Bowl, but, you know, here we are at the fourth or fifth game of the year and it’s already happening.”

“I played football when I was a kid. I loved it. I love watching it,” he added. “I continue to, I will always watch it… It’s a great sport, but football in my mind now is what we would call soccer over here because… I can’t say ‘soccer’ when I’m in Europe in any way shape or form.”

Reynolds joined Swift, 33, alongside his wife, Blake Lively, Sophie Turner, Sabrina Carpenter, sister-in-law Robyn Lively and pals Hugh Jackman and Shawn Levy. The group cheered on the Chiefs in a suite in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Oct. 1.

The “Midnights” singer previously attended the Chiefs game against the Chicago Bears at Arrowhead Stadium, where she was spotted hanging out with Kelce’s mom, Donna Kelce.

Although Reynolds had “fun,” his frequent collaborator, “Stranger Things” and “Deadpool 3” director Levy, joked that regardless of what projects he works on in his career, he will probably be most remembered for hanging with Swift that night.

“It’s almost depressing by the way,” the Canadian film producer told Variety last week. “I can make 50 more hit movies and shows and I’ll still be known as the guy in the orange suede jacket going to the Chiefs-Jets game with Taylor and others.”

Levy was invited by his “very close friend” Reynolds” and “closest friend Hugh.” He was expecting a guys night out with “the buddies,” but he got more publicity than expected.

“It was as simple as, ‘Wait, we can go to an NFL game with our buddies? Let’s do it. We had a glimmer that maybe there would be others but nothing prepared us for the frenzy of attention that was that outing,” he recalled. “Very fun night but definitely, I’ve known famous people but Taylor is definitely a culture magnet unlike anything I’ve seen.”

Swift, however, skipped Kelce’s latest match against the Minnesota Vikings.

“Seven words I thought would never leave my lips in my career: Taylor Swift is not at the game,” CBS Sports’ Jim Nantz said on the broadcast on Oct. 8. “She was questionable all week, but it looks like it’s officially inactive.”

Swift and Kelce, who initiated reaching out to the singer, were first romantically linked in September.
