Utah-based TikTok star Taylor Frankie Paul has come a long way since she was arrested for domestic violence last year following a fight with her boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen.
The incident and more eventful parts of Paul’s life will be showcased on the new reality show, “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,” premiering Friday on Hulu.
In an exclusive interview with The Post, the 30-year-old influencer explained how being put in handcuffs impacted her as an individual and her relationship with Mortensen.
“I actually love this question because, yes it was obviously one of the worst nights ever,” she said. “But for me, it changed our relationship because I finally got help.”
“I feel like I was really struggling post-divorce,” Paul explained. “I lost a baby and then I had a chemical pregnancy, so there was just so much in little time while i’m obviously healing from a divorce. It was so much and everything was public.”
Paul made headlines in 2022 when she announced her divorce from husband Tate Paul, who is the father of her two eldest children, after they participated in a “soft swinging” group with other members in the Mormon “MomTok” community.
The reality star moved on with Mortensen, but their relationship went haywire in Feb. 2023 when they got into a fight that led to Paul’s arrest. She allegedly threw a phone, a wooden play set and “heavy metal chairs” at Mortensen, and one of the chairs apparently hit one of her children.
Paul was charged with aggravated assault but avoided jail time after taking a plea deal. Her other charges — two counts of domestic violence in the presence of a child, child abuse with injury and criminal mischief — were all dismissed with prejudice.
A few months before the incident, Paul suffered an ectopic pregnancy after announcing she was expecting her first baby with Mortensen.
“I think I just, you know, went a little crazy and I could not take the pain,” Paul told The Post.
“And I felt like that night, as bad as it was, was a really big wake up call,” she acknowledged. “Like, Taylor, you need to get help. So I immediately got into classes, went to therapy and changed for the better. And also I haven’t drank alcohol since.”
“So it’s been a really good thing for me,” Paul added. “As bad as it was, it was really a lesson learned.”
After getting past her legal troubles, Paul and Mortensen welcomed their first child together, son Ever, in March 2024.
While Paul’s now a happy mom of three, she admitted that her relationship with Mortensen — a major storyline on the Hulu show — is far from perfect today.
“We’re doing good. A lot better. I don’t want to say we’re this perfect relationship because we’re not and you see that and how it ends,” she explained.
“We still have so much work to go through,” Paul went on. “And I feel like as soon as we can come to terms with ourself is when our relationship is going to be better. We have a lot of stuff internally that we struggle with, which makes it really hard on our relationship.”
