Shannen Doherty’s legacy will live on.
The late actress’ mother, Rosa, has revealed that she will continue Doherty’s podcast “Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty” following her daughter’s death on July 13 at the age of 53. Doherty passed away after a yearslong battle with cancer.
In the August 15 episode titled “Let’s Be Clear … Continues,” Rosa told listeners that it was Doherty’s wish for her to take the helm of the pod after she was gone.
“I am now going to be doing my best to try to continue this for her because that’s what we discussed that she wanted me to do,” Doherty’s mom said.
“And, of course, I’m not her. I could never be her. I’m not as well spoken as she was,” she continued. “But, I’m here for all of you, and I hope you’re all here for me.”
“This podcast meant so much to Shannen, because it allowed her to tell her story and tell her truth,” Rosa explained.
“And over the years, there’s been so many stories and untruths and things mixed up that it was just finally she said, ‘I wanna do this, and I have so many people that have followed me over the years and and have supported me, and I just want to give them the opportunity to hear what my life really is.’”
“And that was part of the reason for this podcast,” Doherty’s mom said. “And it meant so much to me because I got to watch her do this when it was so special for her and needed. It helped her so much in everything that she was going through.”
Rosa went on to tell listeners that “as I get along down the road, it’ll get better. I know it’ll get better.”
Speaking of how her daughter will be remembered, she said, “Her legacy will be the love that she gave to everybody that she knew and the love that she gave to people that she didn’t know.”
“And I think that’s her legacy,” she added. “That people actually and even more so now they’re realizing what a wonderful, kind, and warm human being she was.”
The episode description for Rosa’s first “Let’s Be Clear” podcast also gave insight into taking over Doherty’s mic. “Shannen wanted her podcast to be a space where people could find love, laughter, and healing,” the show description noted. “Who better to fulfill Shannen’s vision than her mom, Mama Rosa.”
The “90210” star had previously spoken of how her mother ingrained in her a sense of resilience and strength from a young age.
“I come from a woman who was determined,” she said in a November 2023 interview with People, where she revealed that Rosa suffered a brain aneurysm when Doherty was 8 years old.
“She impressed that upon me as a very young child like, ‘You don’t give up. You just have to work hard at it.’”
In 2015, Doherty announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes, adding that she had started chemotherapy and radiation. She also underwent a single mastectomy. In 2017, the “Charmed” actress said that the cancer had gone into remission. However, the disease returned in 2019 and became Stage 4 metastatic cancer by 2020.
In June 2023, she shared the cancer had spread to her brain and that she had undergone surgery to remove a brain tumor. Despite her fierce battle, the disease continued to advance, and by November 2023, it had spread to her bones. It was that time that she started her “Let’s Be Clear” podcast.
Doherty passed away on July 13, 2024 “surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie,” a statement from her publicist revealed.
