Skip Bayless had sleepless ‘all-nighter’ before Shannon Sharpe’s ‘Undisputed’ finale

Skip Bayless tried to get some sleep Monday night before his “Undisputed” partner, Shannon Sharpe, recorded his final episode of the FS1 show the next day.

But he couldn’t.

He was “so torn up over what was happening” that even after the show was recorded, Bayless couldn’t even fall asleep.

“To sum this up, on this past Monday night ahead of Shannon’s departure on Tuesday, I did pull an all-nighter because I couldn’t sleep a wink,” Bayless said while responding to a viewer’s question Friday on “The Skip Bayless Podcast.” “I tried, and I failed.

“… The truth is, this past Tuesday, I tried to go to sleep in the afternoon, and I had a hard time going to sleep even then.”

The Post’s Ryan Glasspiegel reported May 31 that Sharpe and Fox Sports had agreed to a buyout and that the final show between Bayless and Sharpe would be recorded once the NBA Finals concluded.

That arrived on Tuesday, when Sharpe and Bayless shared emotional goodbyes during the recording and celebrated with champagne afterward, with Sharpe referencing his “next chapter” — and next destination after seven years with Bayless on “Undisputed” — in a Wednesday tweet that included a video from his final day.

“I’m here because of you,” Sharpe told Bayless during the last show. “You’ve allowed me to share the stage with you. You’ve allowed me to share the platform. … The opportunity that you gave me to become what I became, I’m forever indebted to you. I’ll never forget what you did for me.”

Then, before Bayless could thank Sharpe, the Hall of Fame tight end interrupted and said, “All I ask is when you lay your head on that pillow at night, know I gave you everything I had. I gave you everything I had.”

Bayless thanked Sharpe for “preparing as hard as you could” for each day and topic, adding that the “greatest compliment I can give you is you were a worthy adversary.”

The pair certainly had their confrontations and disagreements, though, including one in January about a Bayless tweet following Bills safety Damar Hamlin’s cardiac arrest in a “Monday Night Football” game against the Bengals.

“No doubt the NFL is considering postponing the rest of this game – but how?” Bayless tweeted at the time. “This late in the season, a game of this magnitude is crucial to the regular-season outcome … which suddenly seems so irrelevant.”

Sharpe wasn’t present for the show the next day, and when he returned on Jan. 4, Sharpe said he hoped the tweet would be deleted.
