Kelly Giddish announced earlier today that she will soon be taking leave of functionally unskilled law and order The franchise, stepping down from its role on spin for the past 10 seasonsoff-turn-main-franchise series Law & Order: SVU, writing about departure on instagramGiddish spoke warmly about her character, Detective Amanda Rollins, who joined the show in 2011 as a new partner for Ice-T’s Detective Finn Tutuola. ,There is no other character like Rollins on TV,” wrote Giddish. ,She has grown and changed, and so have I. I started the show when I was in my late 20s and I’m grateful that I got to spend many of my adult years with Rollins in my life.”

While Giddish seemed quite positive about the change In his post, thanking Dick Wolf, Mariska Hargitay, and the many others he worked with over his decade on the series, some strange drama emerged in the comments. Notably, that surrounding up-and-coming showrunner David Graziano, who came to express grief over Giddish’s departure, only to catch some questions from worried fans about why the change was being made.

Graziano’s response was an interesting one:

It might take you a while to entertain the idea that things are a lot more complicated than they appear in the world of emoji and tweets. All I will say is that Kelly has handled it with the most incredibly classy compartment. Undoubtedly he is one of the finest professionals in the industry during his 24 years of writing for television. I am saddened by his passing. It would be my lucky day if I ever get a chance to write for him again.

Law & Order: SVU It will return for its 24th season on 22 September. There’s no word on how many episodes are expected before Giddish leaves.
