It’s no secret that Taylor Swift’s mere presence at Chiefs games this season has thrown the NFL into a tizzy.
But the pop megastar told TIME that she’s simply in attendance for one reason: to support her boyfriend, Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce.
“I don’t know how they know what suite I’m in,” TIME’s 2023 Person of the Year expressed in her cover story, which was released Wednesday.
“There’s a camera, like, a half-mile away, and you don’t know where it is, and you have no idea when the camera is putting you in the broadcast, so I don’t know if I’m being shown 17 times or once.”
Swift, 33, originally sent social media spiraling in late September when she caught Kelce, 34, in action at Arrowhead Stadium, where his Chiefs demolished the Bears, 41-10.
The broadcast zeroed in on Swift’s appearance in a suite, where she cheered for Kelce beside his mom, Donna.
“I’m just there to support Travis,” she said. “I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”
Swift has attended five Chiefs games this season, the most recent being a 27-19 loss to the Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday night.
The previous four contests she attended were wins.
“Football is awesome, it turns out,” Swift said.
Though Swift’s love story with Kelce came into view this fall, it seems the duo has been together for some time.
“This all started when Travis very adorably put me on blast on his podcast, which I thought was metal as hell,” Swift said of Kelce’s “New Heights” shoutout in July, when he spoke about missing an opportunity to give her a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it during her “Eras Tour” stop in Kansas City.
“We started hanging out right after that. So we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date.”
With Swift now on hiatus until early 2024, it remains to be seen if the Grammy winner will appear at forthcoming Chiefs games as the reigning Super Bowl champions look to defend their title.
The Chiefs (8-4) host the Bills (6-6) on Sunday.
