TikTok star Eva Evans has died by apparent suicide.
Evans, 29, was a New York City-based popular creator with over 300,000 followers, who directed and starred in the Prime Video series “Club Rat.”
Law enforcement sources told TMZ on Tuesday that a friend found Evans, 29 hanging in her NYC apartment on Saturday night, after having seen her on Friday.
“Yesterday my family received news that our sweet, fabulous, creative, caring, hilarious Eva, my beautiful sister, has died,” Evans sister Lila Joy Baumgardner wrote on Instagram Sunday.
“After 24 hours, i still find myself in a constant cycle of denial and acceptance, so i know how unbelievable and hard to process this news will be.”
Per TMZ, the friend who called the police told them that they weren’t aware of Evans being depressed or otherwise emotionally disturbed.
Sources said there was no sign of a struggle, no unusual injuries, and that Evans left a note behind.
Her official cause of death is still pending toxicology reports.
“Uncut Gems” actress Julia Fox described Evans in a TikTok video as a “New York icon.”
“I always saw her like a little sister and I knew she looked up to me,” she said. “She passed away. She was so young. Still had so much to do in life. But she lived life to the fullest.”
“The Hills” alum Lo Bosworth commented on Evans’ last post, “Rest in peace, angel Eva ❤️ you were always kind to me when others couldn’t be bothered. Will never forget that kindness.”
Evans was known for her videos about life as a 20-something in New York City.
Her series “Club Rat” follows the story of an influencer who “attempts to re-enter the chaotic New York City dating scene after a candid video of her humiliating breakup goes viral,” per Prime Video.
Evans previously shared that her father also died by suicide, in 2018.
In a letter about her father’s death by suicide, she wrote, “It will never stop being devastating. September is #suicideawareness month… this letter is for those who are “fine,” who have trauma or anxiety or poor coping mechanisms but can “handle them,” and who are not prioritizing their mental health. I’m begging you to reach out and get help now, when you aren’t in imminent danger, and you work on yourself, you collect the tools that might one day save you.”
She added, “You might not always be able to “handle it” with the skills you have right now. A moment might one day be impossible to move through. Don’t let that happen. Sadness is a language too many of us are fluent in; and suicide is a dialect that’s east to pick up….We are all capable of learning how to tend to ourselves, of learning how to move through pain, and make room for joy.”
“I wish i had Eva here now to refer to because she would have better words and know how to say what i don’t,” Evans’ sister added in her Instagram post.
In a separate post, her sister announced that there will be a celebration of life service at Grace Church in Manhattan on Tuesday.
Evans is survived by her mother and three sisters.
