Travis Kelce let loose over the weekend at his inaugural Kelce Jam music event in the Kansas City area, where the 2023 NFL Draft took place.
The superstar Chiefs tight end, 33, took to the stage Friday in front of a lively crowd and chugged a beer off of the Lombardi Trophy before spiking the hardware to the ground.
The move naturally ignited chatter on social media, as some fans laughed over Kelce’s actions while others expressed outrage.
“Kinda funny,” one fan opined on Instagram.
Another commented, “Isn’t that trophy supposed to mean something.”
Fortunately, the trophy Kelce used was a replica, according to The Kansas City Star.
Kelce has been part of the Chiefs’ past two championship teams, including Kansas City’s Super Bowl win in February over the Philadelphia Eagles.
The eight-time Pro Bowler won his first Super Bowl in 2020 after the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers.
Though Kelce had some fun with the faux Lombardi Trophy, the actual prize infamously took a hit in April 2019, courtesy of a fellow NFL tight end.
When celebrating New England’s sixth Super Bowl victory at Fenway Park, two months after the team defeated the Rams in Super Bowl 2019, former Patriots star Rob Gronkowski used the Lombardi Trophy as a bat to bunt.
The trophy connected off a pitch from former wide receiver Julian Edelman, stunning onlookers in the moment.
“It sounded exactly what you think a baseball hitting the Lombardi Trophy would sound like,” former Patriots offensive lineman Ted Karras said at the time.
Gronkowski, who retired from the NFL in 2019 and returned a year later with the Buccaneers, captured his fourth championship in February 2021 over the Kelce and the Chiefs.
