WFAN host Shaun Morash got a lot of attention for his Zach Wilson rant, so it’s no surprise that he went back to the well.
Earlier this week, Morash slammed Wilson for traveling to Utah with his girlfriend, Nicolette Dellanno, during the Jets’ bye week.
He received a lot of feedback along the lines of “Leave the guy alone, most NFL players use their week off to rest and recuperate,” and so it was that he doubled down on his criticism of the Jets quarterback, using Joe Burrow as a contrast.
Asked what he did on the Bengals’ bye week, Burrow answered, “Absolutely nothing. Sat on the couch, rested, ate, watched football, lifted — so it was a good week.”
After a follow-up question, Burrow said that with the Bengals’ bye week coming relatively early his mind and body didn’t feel like he “needed” the week off.
Morash quote-tweeted the video of Burrow, beginning with an imitation of his detractors: “‘Gasbag says Zach Wilson shouldn’t have gone to Utah all week.’”
To these detractors, Morash added, “Checks in on what an elite QB did on his bye… oh stayed back in Cincy all week.”
Morash also feuded with Blitz, the Seahawks official mascot, after it wondered what the host does “on his days off.”
“Salad bar at Ruby Tuesday’s. Go back to being a below average mascot,” Morash responded.
Wilson was thrust into duty this season when Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles just four offensive snaps into the Jets’ opener against the Bills.
While Wilson has started to perform better than the play that led the Jets to pursue Rodgers in the first place, Morash was not happy about the Utah trip.
“Zach Wilson, in what is about to be the biggest stretch of his career, decided it was a good time to take his girlfriend to Utah to apple and pumpkin picking and go to haunted houses,” Morash said on “Evan & Tiki” on Wednesday.
After host Tiki Barber interjected that Wilson wanted to spend time with his family, Morash was not swayed.
“He’s a professional athlete,” Morash said.
“The family could fly to New York and New Jersey. I’m sorry, the Jets stink after their byes. Zach Wilson’s season last year derailed after a bye. I believe 52 guys could’ve gone and visited families.
“The quarterback, the leader needs to be at or around that facility all week last week and Zach Wilson has not done enough to get his ass on a plane with his girlfriend and go to Utah for a week.”
The Jets are technically the road team Sunday, but they do not have to travel as their game against the Giants is a clash between the two MetLife Stadium dwellers.
