Why Olivia Culpo’s plan to pay for McCaffrey family suite at Super Bowl 2024 fell through

The McCaffrey Super Bowl 2024 suite debacle seems to be settled.

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey explained that his fiancée, model Olivia Culpo, won’t be purchasing a VIP box at the big game — when the 49ers face the Chiefs at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday — after his mom, Lisa McCaffrey said they couldn’t afford it.

“She [Olivia] tried to [get Lisa a suite] but I will not let anybody pay to watch me play,” McCaffrey told Extra during the Super Bowl Opening Night on Monday.

“I had to nix that. She tried to, but I’m not letting anyone pay to watch me play.”

It all started when Lisa said on her podcast, “Your Mom,” last week that she won’t be taking in her son’s first Super Bowl from a suite because “none of us can afford it — not even Christian, money bags over there — nor money bags Olivia.”

Suites for this year’s Super Bowl range in price from $800,000 to $2,000,000 according to TickPick, an online marketplace for event tickets.

“So, we’re not in a suite, I’ll tell you that right now,” Lisa said.

When Culpo caught wind of Lisa’s comments, the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit model posted on her Instagram Story that she was planning to buy a suite for Lisa’s birthday.

That was until McCaffrey said he put the kibosh it.

Lisa also explained that she received eight tickets through her son, and was able to “negotiate” a reserved area to watch the big game.

The proud mom added that some of McCaffrey’s best friends are planning to watch Super Bowl 2024 from a bar nearby Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, and meet up with the All-Pro afterward due to the steep ticket prices.

“Long story short, they are outrageously expensive … I don’t know if it’s the Taylor Swift factor, I don’t know if it’s the first time in Vegas factor, there is just so much going on,” Lisa said.

Swift is dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, which has heightened the attention around Super Bowl 2024.

The 14-time Grammy-winning singer is expected to attend the big game, according to Page Six, which reported she will travel to Las Vegas, via her private plane, right after her concert in Tokyo the night before.

Kelce’s mother Donna also weighed in the Super Bowl suite conversation.

“Well, you can understand that the boxes in Vegas are multi-million dollars, so I have a feeling I’m not in a box,” she said during an appearance Wednesday on the “Today” show.

“I have a feeling I am in the stands … As far as I know, I’m in the stands with everyone else because it is a pricey Super Bowl.”

Donna revealed her Super Bowl 2024 seating arrangement when Hoda Kotb asked if she’d be sitting with Swift.

It is possible for the “Cruel Summer” singer to make it to Las Vegas in time for the big game.
