That’s one way to break the ice.
A newlywed couple had to freeze their expensive honeymoon plans after the bride tested the “in sickness and in health” part of her vows on her wedding day after slipping on an ice cube.
Daisy Allen, 24, and her husband Tom, 31, of Somerset, England, had a beautiful wedding ceremony on March 18 that ended with a massive dance party.
Daisy, a police control room supervisor, got her gown caught in a bramble bush while taking photos with her new hubby but continued on with her night without giving it much thought.
“I knew I’d damaged my dress outside but I wasn’t bothered – I was having a great time,” said Daisy.
The happy bride went on with her special day and moved to the dance floor to bounce around with her friends and family.
The celebration continued through the evening until around 7 p.m. when Daisy broke it down a bit too seriously.
She slipped on melted ice cubes from a broken glass while dancing when she caught her foot in the hole of her dress left by the bramble bushes.
“At first I was laughing, but when I tried to stand up, I couldn’t – and that’s when I realized I’d hurt myself quite badly,” Daisy recounted.
“It became clear we’d be testing the ‘in sickness and in health’ part of our marriage very early!”
Daisy had twisted her knee as she fell and hurt her foot in the process.
The bride was carried up to her hotel room by her best friend and bridesmaid to recover, but wasn’t able to leave for the rest of the night. Tom, a police officer, soon joined his bride in their room and the two decided to end their celebration.
“Sadly, that was the end of our wedding night,” Daisy said.
The next morning, Tom escorted his blushing bride to the hospital when their suspicions were confirmed.
X-rays showed that Daisy had suffered a Lisfranc fracture – a rare fracture damaging the metatarsal and ligaments in her foot.
She was placed in a plaster cast and may need surgery if her bone doesn’t fuse back together.
In the end, the newlyweds decided to cancel their dream honeymoon.
The pair were excited to spend two nights in Miami before boarding a Caribbean cruise but had to chill in England instead.
“We were supposed to be jetting off to Miami for two nights, followed by a week-long cruise around the Caribbean,” the broken bride complained.
“We had all sorts of fun stuff booked like basketball matches and speedboat trips, but instead, I’m bedbound.”
The couple is fighting with the insurance company to get some of their $6,000 back and hopes to rebook their dream honeymoon once Daisy has fully recovered.
“All in all it’s been a bit of a disaster, but we’re hoping to rebook for September – I guess it’s just one of those things!”
