A 10-year-old girl’s attempt to open a CD case is spinning out of control on TikTok.
The Pennsylvania preteen’s mom, known as ELS or @elspa570 on the platform, claimed in a May 6 video that she had to document her daughter Tegan’s attempt at opening a “Now 21” CD case so that viewers could see “the struggle is real.”
Tegan struggled for the rest of the video’s duration — 42 seconds to be exact — to open the case, but never succeeded.
And no, it wasn’t still wrapped in that newly-purchased protective film.
Tegan didn’t even know what she was trying to accomplish, asking her mom about the CD: “What is it?”
ELS ended the video by getting close to the camera and blinking rapidly in bewilderment.
The experiment has over 1.9 million views, 396,600 likes, and 13,400 comments from thousands of people who were made to feel very old.
“Give her a cassette tape!” one top comment read.
“Just…just open it…open…open the lid..no Patrick the lid…the lid….the lid,” another quoted SpongeBob, though that would probably go over Tegan’s head, too.
“Only 27, and wow I’m old,” another laughed.
One claimed: “This made me feel older than my birthday coming up….”
Another parent added: “I tried to explain live tv channels and commercials to my daughter and she was cracking up in total disbelief.”
The Post has reached out to the TikToker for comment.
Meanwhile, others claimed Tegan’s struggle was a user error and did not represent her entire generation.
“Ok but it’s not that hard to be observant enough to see a hinge and know to open from the other end… Whether she knows what a CD is or not,” one said.
“What is happening??? No one ever had to show me how to open a cd. I got my son cds at 10 and he has no common sense but I still didn’t have to…,” another slammed ELS.
In a “redemption” follow-up video, ELS gave Tegan a second chance to properly open the case.
“It’s kinda like a book, so if you’re looking at it like a book…” she helped her daughter.
After flipping the case over and also examining the top of it, Tegan finally cracked the code and unleashed the CD.
ELS proceeded to tell her daughter that she listened to CDs back in the “early 2000’s” when she graduated high school and recalled placing all of her discs in “these big, black thick books” to keep them safe.
“Really?” a surprised Tegan asked. “So it’s like a baseball card book? Or like, for Pokemon cards?”
“Yes, exactly,” ELS responded, claiming she’s still had her book of CDs and would show her daughter.
Still, viewers had a hard time believing that this was all new information for Tegan.
“People really don’t know what CD’s are??… I am only 15 and I’ve grown up on CD’s I have a whole case of movies on CDs,” one teen claimed.
“I’m 18 and i remember flipping through the zip up cd book thing and finding the one he asked me for,” another laughed.
One reminisced: “As a 22-year-old, I miss being young and flipping through the CD’s my mom had and getting to choose what we listened to in the car.”
