I met my flight attendant husband while we were both working — and we couldn’t be happier

Love is in the air.

Two Spirit Airlines flight attendants revealed Friday how a five-minute conversation resulted in a lifetime of happiness.

Hunter Smith-Lihas said that he was at his gate agent job in the Pittsburgh International Airport when his coworker asked him to deliver some paperwork to a Florida-bound pilot, reports CNN Travel.

According to the agent, the errand “wasn’t normally my job” but went ahead and fulfilled the task.

After handing the captain the documents, Smith-Lihas was waiting for permission to disembark when he came face to face with his future husband, John Lihas, who was working the front half of the plane.

“There was some kind of delay in processing the paperwork,” Smith-Lihas recalled.

As the agent waited for the all-clear, the pair struck up a conversation about a pin that was fastened to Lihas’ lanyard.

“I said, ‘I love the pin on your lanyard. Where did you get it from? I think it was from Delta Airlines,’” said Smith-Lihas. “‘Did you work for Delta before? Where did you get it from?’ And that’s how I started the conversation with him.”

Lihas told his future spouse that he never worked at Delta and asked Smith-Lihas his name and what he was doing for the rest of the day.

“You know, small talk,” said Smith-Lihas claiming that both men assumed that they would never see each other again.

After his shift, Smith-Lihas said he went straight home and stalked his soon-to-be husband on Facebook.

“At the time, it didn’t even occur to me to add him,” laughed Smith-Lihas. “But when I started flipping through his profile, I thought, ‘I’m going to do it. I’m going to send him a friend request.’”

It was a week after the initial exchange that things took off and Lihas finally asked his beau on a date.

“‘I’m going to see what happens. If anything, we’re just going to be friends, coworkers, distant co-workers. But I really didn’t think anything was going to happen.’”

Lihas, who had just arrived at his hotel in Texas after working a second flight that day, saw the friend request and immediately accepted.

The pair then started exchanging messages daily talking about their lives, hobbies and families.

Both were shocked to find that they shared several interests as well as the fact they both came from divorced households with one parent in Florida and one in Pennsylvania.

“The craziest thing was, when we started talking, we realized how many coincidences there were in our lives. Things were very similar,” gushed Smith-Lihas.

It was a week after the initial exchange that things took off and Lihas finally asked his beau on a date.

“I know this is a bit daring, you can tell me if you don’t like the idea,” wrote Lihas.”But I have a layover in Myrtle Beach. I think you should fly out here. I’d love to have dinner with you and get to know you better.”

Smith-Lihas revealed that he was actually hesitant to go but ultimately chose to accept the invite due to a “good” feeling regarding the man.

Meeting at the airport, the two men decided to have dinner and then take a stroll on the boardwalk.

Despite the couple’s first date being “perfect,” it was time for Lihas to get back in the air.

“I was kind of sad, actually,”  recalled Smith-Lihas. “Because we were living in two different cities. I didn’t know the next time I was going to see him.”

Later, Smith-Lihas claimed the distance actually made the relationship stronger and the men soon devised a way of seeing each other whenever one of them had free time.

The couple hit a brief hiccup when both of their lives were consumed by both work and personal issues though eventually they managed to work through everything and resume their love story.

A few months later, both men took a huge step when Smith-Lihas popped the question during a trip in Puerto Rico.

Nearly a year after meeting, Smith-Lihas was hired by Spirit as a full-time flight attendant and the pair moved in together.

“That’s kind of when things really stepped it up to the next level,” said Hunter. “And even then I still couldn’t believe, ‘Wow, this is crazy how this all happened and everything fell into place perfectly. We’re working at the same job now. We’re working in the same base. Our families are in the same place.’ It just all felt like everything fell perfectly into place.”

It just goes to show you never know who you’re going to meet, when and where, you just never know who that one person is going to be.”

Lihas also recalled how he felt when he found out he and his spouse would be working together.

“It felt nice going to work together and actually spending three full days together. And spending time at the layover hotel together, eating dinner together,” said the man.

A few months later, both men took a huge step when Smith-Lihas popped the question during a trip in Puerto Rico.

“We were just walking around doing the touristy stuff. And I remember I had a coffee in my hand, I was looking out in the water, and then I turned around and he’s on one knee,” gushed Lihas. “I was just completely shocked, and of course I said yes.”

The pair planned a small wedding on the West Coast with a majority of the money going to a honeymoon.

As of now, the happy couple live in Florida working with another airline that hasn’t been identified.

“I never thought this would happen to me, to be honest, never – even coming across so many people day to day, coworkers, passengers,” said Lihas. ““I always believe it was always meant to be.”

“When I look back, I just never in a million years thought that this is where we together would be after that chance encounter,” cried Smith-Lihas.”It just makes me almost emotional, it makes me want to cry. It’s just an overwhelming happiness.”

“It just goes to show you never know who you’re going to meet, when and where, you just never know who that one person is going to be,” concluded the fight attendant.
