A pair of chefs revealed what they consider to be the correct way to use a colander — but many people were left divided.
The 8-second clip by @cookingcards on TikTok is captioned “How to use the colander the right way” and the video has gotten nearly 3.1 million views since it recently resurfaced.
Instead of the traditional method of throwing boiled noodles into a colander and then tossing them back into the pot, the chef recommends a better strategy to utilize the kitchen tool.
He places the colander — which is about the same size as the pan — on top of the boiled noodles like a lid and drains the water out.
Once the water is drained, he tosses the noodles around in the pot proving his hack works.
However, many people were split over the colander tip, doubting they’d misused the cooking utensil.
“The other way is better 😂,” quipped one person. “Nah I think I’ve been using it right.”
“Actual genius,” commented a surprised viewer.
“NOOO! You’re using the colander WRONG 😳😳😳😳😳😳,” disagreed another.
“As long as you get the water out and eat the sodding pasta who says what’s right and wrong?” debated one person.
“Wait, y’all don’t call them strainers?” questioned more viewers. “Am I the only one who just uses the pan lid?
The colander hack is not the first time viewers have been stunned to learn they aren’t using kitchen tools correctly.
Another TikTok cooking guru shared a tip to make mashed potatoes — without having to peel the spuds which involves a baking rack.
