A mom agreed to give her 12-year-old daughter get a nose piercing — and now she’s being shamed by other parents.
Tink — @cherries_87 on TikTok — posted a video sharing that her daughter Ruby wanted to get her nose pierced, and she would let her do it if the video got 25,000 likes.
Ruby was in luck because the video quickly gained traction: As of Thursday morning, the original video had garnered more than 86,000 likes.
When the video hit 27,000 likes, Tink posted a follow-up video saying, “Remind me to never, ever do something like this again on an app where she is loved so much.
“So, yes, I am a person of my word. She’s going to have her nose done,” she said.
In the next video, a blue-gloved Tink could be seen piercing Ruby’s nose, documenting the process from marking the spot for the hole, cleaning the area, the actual piercing and, at last, revealing the final result.
Ruby appeared very happy with the piercing in the video, and many people commented to say how good it looked.
But others had a more negative reaction.
One person questioned, “what will the school say” — and Tink responded.
“I did get a phone call from the school today, which we knew that was going to happen,” she explained. “The teacher did stop Ruby and was like, they’ve got a no face piercing rule at the school so we need to abide by it. But the head of Year 7 did ring me, and we have come to a compromise.”
Tink shared that for the next three to four weeks, Ruby will wear a little plaster over her nose to cover up the piercing, and while it’s healing over the summer, she’ll buy her daughter a see-through bar to wear in the pierced nose at school the following year.
“So it’s not that bad. We did get told off. We did get a slap on the wrist, and she was told that she wasn’t allowed to any lessons until they’d spoken to me. But when we spoke to them, and I said that I’d compromise — everything was OK,” she said.
Tink also responded to comments that mom-shamed her over her decision to let Ruby get her piercing.
“What an amazing mum not,” someone commented on her original video.
“I’m not quite sure where this comment’s come from in the sense of calling me out like that,” she responded in a video. “In a world where schools are struggling to deal with bullies, and kids are getting picked on for anything possible — their teeth, their ears, their eyes, their height — they get bullied for absolutely everything.
“If my child has come to me asking to have something done that makes her feel good about herself, in a place that’s so horrible, that’s why I done it. She wanted that to make herself feel good, so I done it for her,” Tink continued.
“It’s come from a place of love and it’s come from a place of want for her to go to school feeling confident and not worrying about bullies saying anything else. So thanks for your comment but her nose is doing really well, and it really suits her.”
Someone commented in response, “Nobody should’ve said that to you you are a great mum x.”
“Massive Respect To you Honestly. I have a Daughter myself who is 7 and honestly i would exactly the same if she was older enough Obviously,” another wrote.
“[Your’re] an amazing mam everyone is different you are just trying to make your child’s life better and make the schools a better place to go to,” a user said.
