Stephen A. Smith isn’t mincing words about Larsa Pippen following the latest buzz surrounding her relationship with Michael Jordan’s son, Marcus.
One day after Larsa, 49, stated she was “traumatized” by the media frenzy ignited by Jordan’s comments on her relationship with the 32-year-old Marcus — in which the NBA icon said “no” when asked this month if he approved of the coupling — Smith opined on the matter Wednesday on his self-titled FanDuel show, stating in part how there are “certain lines you don’t cross.”
“At one point in time, they were family,” the “First Take” host said of Jordan, 60, and his former Bulls teammate Scottie Pippen, Larsa’s ex-husband.
“Again, she [Larsa] was around. I don’t care what man you are, when you are dating someone, even if you don’t want them anymore, you don’t want to see them in your face with somebody else you tight with. You don’t want to see that, that’s too close to home. There’s certain lines you don’t cross.”
Larsa was married to Pippen, a six-time NBA champion with the Bulls, from 1997 to 2021.
They share four children together.
Smith, 55, added in Wednesday’s take how the recent developments in Larsa’s private life could be “uncomfortable” for certain parties involved.
“You know that when you knew Jordan, you was Pippen’s woman and the mother of his children,” he said. “So for you to transition from that to dating his son, is at the very least uncomfortable.
“So she’s sitting up there, she’s talking, she admitted it probably is awkward for Michael and Scottie … you think? Really? Really, you don’t understand that as a woman? You’re a grown woman.”
Prior to Smith’s remarks, Larsa addressed the recent fallout on Tuesday’s episode of her “Separation Anxiety” podcast with Marcus.
“I do understand that it’s not awkward for us to be together because it’s us,” Larsa said.
“But it probably is awkward for my ex and your dad because they have their own relationship or whatever it was. I wasn’t a part of that, you weren’t a part of that. So I feel like for them it probably is weird, it probably is weird for your dad. I can’t be mad. I understand… Oh my god, I was traumatized.”
Marcus noted how Jordan contacted him after the five-time NBA MVP’s encounter with the paparazzi in Paris, where the ordeal initially began.
“… Obviously we knew ahead of time because he called me and texted me and wanted to make sure that I didn’t take anything the wrong way but then when the article came out, he texted me again and he never said ‘hell no’ and that’s not what the implications were,” Marcus said.
Larsa and Marcus were first linked in September 2022 before making their relationship Instagram-official in January.
At the time, speculation mounted regarding Jordan’s reaction to the pairing as his relationship with Pippen appeared to deteriorate following the spring 2020 release of “The Last Dance.”
Pippen, 57, was said to be unhappy about his portrayal in the docuseries that chronicled the Bulls dynasty of the 1990s.
As for Jordan, he appeared carefree in Italy on Tuesday while he continued his overseas getaway with wife Yvette Prieto.
