A comedian on Instagram is bravely sharing his story about the difficulties of online dating.
Earlier this month, Jonathan Ventura, who goes by the username @jonathandoescomedy on social media, took to Instagram to get vulnerable about being ghosted — and is asking others where he could have gone wrong.
“So I just left a restaurant after waiting 30 minutes for a date to show up, and apparently I got stood up,” Ventura began in his emotional video missive, which reached nearly 74,000 likes on the app.
“I don’t know what to say, like, I’m trying to do everything right to be a gentleman, I brought flowers,” he continued, flashing a bouquet of red roses to the camera.
Ventura explained that he had been consistently talking to the mystery woman for two weeks, intending to learn more about her before the pair met in person.
He claimed he carefully picked out the restaurant and a day and time that was best suited to his dates interests.
“You know, I’ve done everything to be just the kind of guy that would value somebody’s time,” he said. “Like, I’m just looking for my person. I’m just looking for the one that I guess is out there for me.”
The Post has reached out to Ventura for additional comment.
In his Instagram bio, Ventura describes himself as a “down-to-earth guy with CP” — a common abbreviation for cerebral palsy, a group of neurological disorders that may limit the mobility of certain muscles.
“I want to be somebody’s husband someday, father,” Ventura went on to say in his heartbreaking message. “I’m trying to do everything that’s right and I just get stood up, like my feelings didn’t even matter, sitting there eating a meal by myself and realizing that nobody even cares about people anymore.”
He continued, lamenting that it was hard to date in Los Angeles, but that it “shouldn’t be.”
“It shouldn’t be this difficult to fall in love, to be kind to one another,” Ventura concluded the clip. “Ladies, tell me, what did I do wrong?”
The video was later reposted on the popular Instagram account The Shade Room, where it’s garnered nearly 350,000 likes and countless comments since Saturday.
Below the re-published post, rapper Big Freedia chimed in, writing, “This touch[ed] me she out there bro never give up on love ❤️Gods timing.”
Artist Travis Malloy also agreed with Big Freedia’s sentiments, typing, “Rejection is Gods protection!”
Additional celebs, including “The Good Place” star Jameela Jamil and the “Power Book II: Ghost” actor Woody McClain, went to Venura’s personal account page with some words of encouragement.
“Looking forward to the update of when you find someone who deserves you,” Jamil wrote to Ventura, along with a string of heart emojis.
“You got this brodie🙌🙌,” McClain agreed.
Others gave the comedian some tips, per his request in the video.
“Keep your head up king — and keep being the man you set out to be,” one user noted, in part. “Don’t know you, but from what I can tell you’re one of the few men out here who are really out here trying to step up and be a man — provider, a best friend, a life partner.”
Another wrote, “You did nothing wrong … I am rooting for you … You deserve a woman who really appreciates you and the kind man you are. You’re going to mate an amazing husband.”
