Magoo dead at 50: Rapper worked with Timbaland, Missy Elliot

The world of rap has lost another great.

Amid the celebration of Hip-Hop’s 50th anniversary, rapper Magoo — who famously collaborated with genre giants such as Missy Elliot, 52, Timbaland, 51 and late R&B icon Aaliyah — has died at age 50.

His cause of death has not yet been made public.

Magoo, née Melvin Barcliff from Norfolk, Virginia, is best known for laying down stellar lyrics on late ’90s and early 2000s hits such “Up Jumps Da Boogie,” “Beep Me 911” and “Drop.” He also worked closely alongside Timbaland as a producer.

His celebrity friends and fans alike have taken to social media to mourn his loss.

“I don’t even know how to say anything at this point…this dude, always pushed me,” wrote singer Ginuwine, 52, in part, in an Instagram caption dedicated to Magoo Sunday.

“Totally one of the best ever in my eyes always pressing forward I know we didn’t talk a lot but the love was and will be always there my brotha,” continued the “Differences” vocalist.

Beneath his post, music heavyweights such as Jermaine Dupri and Omarion offered their condolences.

Musician Digital Black, too, paid tribute to the fallen star via Instagram, writing, “Man can’t believe this [Rest In Heaven] Magoo damn big bro wasn’t ready for this at all.”
