A mom has left fellow parents shocked after sharing a teacher’s suggested approach to celebrating her daughter’s birthday at school.
The teacher suggested the mom prepare individual pre-packaged meals for each student in the class to mark the special day, instead of just the usual cake or cupcakes.
The school doesn’t allow traditional classroom birthday parties
Natali, the mom in question, shed light on the school’s policy which apparently frowns upon “traditional classroom birthday parties.”
Instead, the teacher proposed a different solution for her daughter’s class: each student’s birthday could be celebrated with a pre-packaged meal.
The teacher then sent out a photo that was meant to serve as inspiration for one of these proposed meal boxes.
The box contained a slice of pizza, a popper, and a cupcake.
Apparently, the idea behind this approach was to ensure “easy distribution” and minimize disruption during snack time.
“I’m trying to think of something to put together for the kiddos. Recommendations greatly appreciated,” Natali wrote in her post.
“Wow this is so much work”
The reaction in the comment section was mixed but most parents were outraged by the teacher’s request.
“Ummmm sorry. WHAT? They want you to send a meal for every kid instead of just a treat?” one mom exclaimed. “And also you’re allowed to bring in items that are open or have been made at home?”
“Are you actually kidding?” asked someone else.
Then one parent took issue with the nutritional aspect, saying, “I would be super annoyed if another parent fed my child sugar and junk food at school. Especially when I go to so much effort preparing a healthy snack and lunch. This kind of birthday treat idea would not be permitted in Australia.”
And someone else weighed in, saying: “If I were you, I’d just order pizza and go to the class and help the teacher hand out plates. This seems very extra.”
Then this person claimed, “I would never do all that. I’d send in cupcakes and that’s that. This is so much work.”
“I’d bring in a little treat for the kids to take home”
Amidst the criticism, some people lent a helping hand and suggested ideas for Natali.
Cupcakes in little boxes were one suggestion, while party bags emerged as another popular choice.
Meanwhile, others suggested savory options like mini sandwiches.
“Just make sure there’s no allergies or diabetics,” one commenter advised.
“I’d bring in a little treat for the kids to take home, that way, there’s no issues with distribution/disruption,” concluded another.
