Scott Rogowsky is mad as hell at the NFL.
Rogowsky, the comedian who formerly hosted “HQ Trivia”, put the NFL on blast and accused them of ripping off his “NFL Writers Room” series in a recent marketing initiative.
Last week, the NFL put out a promotional video for the upcoming season, in which actor Keegan Michael-Key presented an NFL “script” for a table read that included star players such as Jalen Ramsey and Patrick Mahomes.
Rogowsky threw a flag on the play.
“Now does it surprise me that a soulless mega corporation with zero creativity or independent thought would choose to blatantly rip off actually-creative people to make their content?” Rogowsky asked.
“No it doesn’t. Does it piss me off? You betcha, because the person they ripped off this time was me!”
The Post has reached out to the NFL for comment.
Rogowsky explained that along with Neil Janowitz, now the editorial director of New York Magazine’s entertainment vertical Vulture, he made several seasons of the series “NFL Writers Room” under their “12 Angry Mascots” brand over a decade ago.
“There’s one I posted in February of this year. My feeling on this is NFL folks saw this video go viral and decided to rip it off themselves,” Rogowsky said.
“Just Google NFL Writers Room. You’ll see all these videos of me, going back to 2009.”
The NFL being scripted has been a joke that has bubbled up on social media in recent years, and the league marketers were playing on the trope.
Former running back Arian Foster joked about the sport being rigged on a Barstool Sports podcast, CBS Sports did a writers room bit on it for the playoffs in January and the Jaguars alluded to a “script” for the season in their schedule release video.
In his video going after the NFL, Rogowsky explained that the series got picked up by ESPN, and included an appearance from Ariana Madix, who went onto achieve fame in “Vanderpump Rules”.
“They have the gall to use this as their tag line — ‘You can’t make this stuff up’ — You’re right, NFL. You can’t! You stole it! Shame on you! Shame on all of you, the Not Funny League,” Rogowsky said.
