15-year-old breaks ‘world’s longest hair’ record: ‘I feel great pride’

He beat out the competition — by a hair.

A 15-year-old has taken the crown for having the world’s longest hair on a male teenager, measuring 4 feet 9.5 inches.

The Guinness World Record holder Sidakdeep Singh Chahal said he dedicates an hour to hair washing, drying and brushing twice a week.

“It would take an entire day if it wasn’t for the help of my mother,” he told Guinness.

Chahal has never cut his long locks — not even a tiny trim — for religious reasons. As a Sikh, he maintains that his tresses are a gift from God.

While his relatives and friends follow the same tenants, none have hair as long as his and were “shocked” when he unveiled it.

When he announced he had earned the Guinness World Record title, they didn’t think he was serious.

“They thought I was pulling their leg and it took a bit of proof to convince them,” said Chahal, who usually puts his hair in a bun and covers it with a dastār, a type of traditional headwear.

“I had never planned on becoming a world record holder, but now that I am, it is an unreal feeling,” he said in a video by Guavo Media.

When he was younger, Chahal was teased for his hair and its maintenance, previously thinking that, when he got older, he’d eventually chop it off.

But now, he’s proud of it.

“I feel great pride as it provides a positive focus on Sikhism, as well as making me a very unique person in the entire world,” he said in the clip.

Despite his record-breaking locks, he isn’t constantly obsessing over his hair — in his free time, he enjoys exercising, playing video games and reading.

“Believe it or not but my entire personality is not based around my hair,” he quipped.

The world’s longest hair on a female teenager is currently held by Nilanshi Patel, from India, whose hair measures 6 feet 6.7 inches.

She has set the record three times — once in 2018, then again in 2019 and most recently in 2020. She had also achieved the title for the world’s longest hair on a teenager.

However, after securing the impressive title, the now-20-year-old chopped it to a bob and donated it to a museum.
