He just wanted a hug!
A Florida Sheriff’s Office Deputy was dispatched to a home after responding to a disconnected call from the residence, only to find an adorable reason for the alert.
When Hillsborough County Deputy Scott Pracht arrived at the Riverview, Fla. home, he learned that the 911 call came from a young boy who “wanted to give him a hug,” WFLA-TV reported.
Doorbell footage captured the moment Pracht knocked on the front door to respond to what he thought might’ve been an emergency.
A woman comes from the side of the property and greets Pracht, but she’s visibly confused as to why he’s at the residence.
“Is this your home?” Pracht asks the woman, to which she responds yes. “Everything okay? We had a 911 call.”
The video fast forwards slightly just when the mother swings open her door and demands her son to come talk to the officer and bring his phone.
“To be honest, he doesn’t even know what 911 is,” the mother apologetically tells the officer.
The small child runs out with a phone and is asked by the mother “did you call the police?”
“Well, I wanted to give him a hug!” the boy answers before sweetly rushing at Pracht.
The mother takes the child’s phone and looks through the cellular device when she discovers the young boy did, indeed, call 911, showing Pracht his call history.
“I know what your phone number is, it’s 911,” the boy tells Pracht.
Pracht turned the adorable moment into a teaching lesson as he briefed the boy on the seriousness of using 911 in emergency situations.
“Yeah, but do you know what that’s for [911]? It’s if you’re in trouble, if you need help, or if somebody you know is around you and that’s in trouble and needs help,” Pracht explained.
“It’s very important you gotta be careful when you call that number, okay. Only in emergencies and if you’re hurt, or someone else is hurt, your mom needs help, you know someone’s doing something they’re not suppose to do, you give us a call, okay,” Pracht adds.
“Okay,” the small child innocently responds, then apologizes by saying “sorry” after being directed by his mother to.
Pracht quickly forgives the child with no hesitation and reassures the mom “it’s okay.”
“Ten-four… kid just wanted a hug,” Pracht amusingly said on his radio before the video cuts out.
