A woman was life “downright disgusted” and considering divorce after finding out her husband originally pursued her as part of a crude bet among men in their office over who could take her virginity.
While working in a call center in her 20s, the anonymous woman’s coworkers found out she was a preacher’s daughter and still a virgin — so they came up with the insensitive bet, she wrote in the Atlanta Black Star.
“I expected that information to cause me to be ostracized, but it actually had the opposite effect,” the woman explained.
“The guys on the floor started showing me a great deal of attention, and I became a very hot commodity.”
The wife said she was “weary” of her male colleagues — except for her eventual husband of over a decade who she ended up sharing her number with.
She would spend “endless hours” talking to him and would eventually marry him and start a family together.
She was happily married until she found out about the office bet when a former coworker spilled the beans during a recent party.
“He let it slip out that there had been a bet in the call center when we all worked there,” she wrote. “I was crushed and really disturbed by the admission.”
She confronted her husband when she got home and he admitted to taking part in the “childish” bet and accused his wife of “overreacting.”
“He said that even though he was motivated by the bet when he got to know me, he fell in love with me and doesn’t regret tying the knot,” she wrote. “I made it clear how I felt about him for going as far as to marry me just to win a bet and take my virginity.”
The mother thought it was “crude and downright disgusting” and is now “considering divorce” after talking to her parents.
