It Shore is expensive.
The beach, the boardwalk, the beauty of the Garden State: they’re all the makings of the pretty summertime memories New Yorkers and their tristate area neighbors pay a pretty penny for to vacation at the Jersey Shore.
But when the asking price for a getaway to the local paradise is $10,000, would-be visitors aren’t sure the New Jersey bang is worth the buck.
“Every year we pay $10,000 to come down to the Jersey Shore [and rent] houses,” Cait Carr Vogel, a mom influencer from Philadelphia, explained in a snippet that’s causing a stir across social media. “You need to bring your own sheets, toilet paper, paper towels. No food. You gotta bring your own coffee, everything.”
“No parking,” the blond, carting a beach chair on her back while hoofing it to the seaside, griped to her over 600,000 video viewers. “You need to walk to the beach with all of your crap.”
“Basically, we’re paying $10,000 to camp.”
But in the land made famous by the likes of Snooki, and on the sands where A-list influencers Alix Earle and Livvy Dunne love to frolic, money is, apparently, no object.
The Jersey Shore, now enjoying a ritzy renaissance since its 2010s era, MTV series boom, is beckoning the 20-somethings of Gen Z to its beaches and bars, charging upwards of $300 for VIP access into its hottest hotspots.
Wealthy New Yorkers, who consider $300 chump change, are shelling out $13 million for a piece of prime coastal property. One luxurious 3,856-square-foot home boasts eight bedrooms and seven bathrooms, making it the talk of one of Jersey’s most exclusive towns.
Still, the uninitiated don’t seem to understand the shore’s mass appeal.
“$10,000?!?!?! To swim in that nasty brown Atlantic Ocean water. Ick!” a confused commenter shrieked beneath Vogel’s vid.
“You could pay $5K and be in the Caribbean,” an equally perplexed detractor nudged.
“You’re insane,” another scoffed.
“$10,000 will get you an AMAZING trip to Greece!!,” a separate critic suggested.
“I live at the Jersey shore and I can promise you nothing you rent is worth $10,000!,” a New Jerseyan assured.
“Why the f- -k do y’all do this?,” questioned another, prompting a Jersey Shore defender to offer an impassioned explanation.
“For those outside the tristate, [saying], ‘Oh $10k for Euro vacation, etc,’ just know it’s tradition,” said the regular. “For families that vacation down the shore, it’s the same town every year, same rental [or] hotel, same groups of vacation friends that the kids grow up with and see only that week, same plans like boardwalk pizza on the first night and mini golf on Wednesdays and dinners at the same ‘nice’ restaurants.”
“[That’s] what makes it all worth it.”
