TikTok’s text-to-speech voice isn’t a robot — this woman claims it’s her.
Kat Callaghan, an Ontario-based radio host on the local station 91.5 FM “The Beat,” revealed that she’s the voice behind the iconic text-to-speech feature on the app.
“When you guys have been asking me if I’m the voice on TikTok,” she wrote on a TikTok clip with nearly 30 million views, using text-to-speech.
“Finally I can tell you guys — it is me,” she finished in her own voice.
Skeptics in the comments weren’t “100% convinced” the voice really belongs to Callaghan, asking her to “do the voice” like it sounds online.
With only three videos on the platform — her first only posted a week ago — she’s already garnered over 270,000 followers, shocking viewers with her iconic voice.
In another clip, she answered questions from the comments section, saying she would never “lie” about being the voice of TikTok due to her line of work doing voiceovers, being a radio host and running a podcast.
“Yes, I’m the TikTok text-to-speech girl, my name is Kat,” she said in another clip, mimicking how the text-to-speech voice actually sounds on the app, revealing that she’s worked with the platform on other projects.
“Sometimes, you guys make me say some pretty horrendous things, it’s pretty messed up, but I kinda think it’s funny. I don’t mind it at all.”
Users were floored upon hearing her speak, saying they “believed” her, firing off even more questions than before.
“I heard it on the ‘no I’m not lying’ and my jaw dropped,” one flabbergasted viewer said.
“The Siri of our generation,” another quipped.
“This whole time I thought it was AI,” someone else said.
“Imagine her scrolling thru TikTok and just hearing her own voice over and over,” another user wrote.
“This is so cool but so freaky seeing the face to the voice,” someone else commented.
“Your voice will likely go down as one of the most memorable in this current Zeitgeist. That’s pretty cool!” another complimented her.
