Problems are mounting for the Philadelphia 76ers.
Already on the defensive following damning remarks from All-Star guard James Harden, who called president of basketball operations Daryl Morey a “liar,” the sister of Sixers alum and current Celtics center Al Horford is jumping into the conversation.
“It’s almost like the entire organization is one giant, miserable s–t show,” Anna Horford tweeted Monday in response to a video of Harden calling out Morey.
Anna is no stranger to using social media to voice her opinions, especially when it comes to the Sixers.
Keep in mind that in 2019, Horford signed a four-year, $109 million contract with the Sixers.
But the big man proved to be a bad fit alongside center Joel Embiid, and Philadelphia traded Horford a year later to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The latest Sixers mess began Saturday when ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported the team ended trade talks regarding Harden and “plan to bring him back to training camp for start of the season.”
In a video posted Monday by The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Harden called Morey a “liar” while speaking at a press event in China with Adidas basketball.
“Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of,” Harden said.
“Let me say that again: Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of.”
Harden, 33, is unhappy with Morey over the lack of a long-term max contract offer, according to Wojnarowski.
Harden took a $15 million pay cut last July, signing a $33 million deal for the 2022-23 campaign after declining his $47.4 million player option with the Sixers.
Rumblings of a rift between Harden and Morey swirled in June when the point guard picked up the $35.6 million player option and stated his trade request, with the Los Angeles Clippers being his preferred destination.
But, for now, Harden’s future remains in Philadelphia, whether he likes it or not.
