“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” made a splash at the box office.
The superhero flick, a sequel to 2018’s “Aquaman,” raked in $9.2 million on its opening night Friday, according to IMDB’s Box Office Mojo.
The Jason Momoa-led movie is expected to earn over $40 million plus on the four-day Christmas weekend, according to Deadline.
However, if those numbers are correct, it will have a worse opening weekend than Marvel’s biggest bomb, “The Marvels,” which was released in November.
The Post said the DC Studios film “isn’t well done, but it isn’t miserable either.”
“Wonka,” which held the No. 1 spot last Friday, moved down a notch to second, with a $6.5 million take.
The musical fantasy, with Timothee Chalamet in the titular role, is slated to earn $22 million this weekend, as per Vulture.
The animated comedy “Migration,” which features characters voiced by Kumail Nanjiani, Elizabeth Banks, Awkwafina and Keegan Michael-Key, landed in third, with earnings of $5.8 million.
Variety said the movie, which follows a family of mallards, “is for the birds.”
The epic action film “Salaar” came in fourth with sales of $3.8 million.
In fifth place was the romantic comedy “Anyone But You,” starring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell and based on William Shakespeare’s play “Much Ado About Nothing,” which took in $3.45 million.
