‘Baby Driver’ actor Hudson Joseph Meek’s death under investigation as accident, no foul play suspected: report

Hudson Joseph Meek’s death does not appear to have been caused by foul play and is being investigated as an accident, according to a new report.

Law enforcement sources reportedly told TMZ that they are treating the 16-year-old star’s tragic death as an accident. The sources also allegedly told the outlet there were no signs that drugs or alcohol were involved.

Meek, who was best known for his role in the 2017 movie “Baby Driver,” died on Dec. 21 after he sustained blunt force injuries when he fell from a moving vehicle on the evening of Dec. 19 in his hometown of Vestavia Hills, Ala.

The Jefferson County, Ala. coroner confirmed to CBS News that the circumstances around Meek’s death are under investigation by the police department in Vestavia Hills.

The Post has reached out to the police and the coroner.

Meek’s mother, Lani Wells Meek, posted about her son’s death on her Facebook page shortly after he passed.

“Our hearts are broken to share that Hudson Meek went home to be with Jesus tonight,” she wrote.

“His 16 years on this earth were far too short, but he accomplished so much and significantly impacted everyone he met.”

An obituary for the young actor read, “He was surrounded by friends, family, and the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.”

“Hudson was an organ donor, and his family is comforted by knowing that he will continue to help others for years to come.”

“Hudson was also an accomplished actor,” his obituary noted. “He worked on several major motion pictures and television shows, some of which will be released in 2025. He absolutely loved spending time on set and having the chance to learn the names and stories of every member of the cast and crew.”

In addition to acting in the Oscar-nominated “Baby Driver” as Young Baby, Meek also guest starred in the Emmy-nominated TV reboot of “MacGyver” and booked voice-over work in commercials for Toys R Us, McDonald’s and the online video game “League of Legends.”

“Hudson’s personality was one of a kind. He was confident, convicted in his beliefs, spontaneous, and quick-witted,” the obituary continued. “He never let the facts get in the way of a funny story, and he loved friendly banter.”

Outside of acting, Meek had an active school life. A sophomore at Vestavia Hills High School, he played on the school’s football team, sang in the Honor Choir and was a part of the student government.

Extracurricularly, he earned an advanced open water scuba diving certification when he was 14 and visited all 50 states.

Meek is survived by his parents, brother, grandmothers, aunts and uncles.

A Celebration of Life is slated for Saturday at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Ala.

The service will be available to livestream from his Instagram account or on his mother’s Facebook page, according to his obituary.

In the wake of his death, the actor’s family created the Hudson J. Meek Memorial Scholarship, which will be given to a Vestavia Hills High School student each year. Per Meek’s obituary, the family asks people to donate to the fund instead of flowers.
