Barbara Corcoran is a shark in the boardroom — just not in the bedroom.
The “Shark Tank” star, 75, opened up about sleeping in separate bedrooms from her husband, Bill Higgins, revealing a bonus is shorter sex.
“I think there’s something to be said about your own private space. I lead a very busy life. I have a huge family that I’m always entertaining. I have very sincere, active friends and so what I need more than anything else is a respite, and my husband is not relaxing,” Corcoran said in a preview of “The Jamie Kern Lima Show,” which was obtained by People.
The television star revealed why having separate rooms works for them nearly 37 years after they tied the knot on Valentine’s Day in 1988.
Corcoran shared that he has a lot of “ideas” in his head and she finds it difficult to “come up with the energy at the end of the day to listen to him and to nod and to contribute to the conversation.”
“I run a little short,” she admitted. “Better I go to my room, and I have an hour to myself.”
And the two have an understanding when it comes to entering each other’s space.
“If I go to the living room, my husband follows me. I go to my bedroom, he doesn’t dare come in. I have to invite him into my bedroom and I like it that way,” Corcoran said. “He’s never invited me back ’cause he knows I’ll never come into his bedroom, but I have to invite him into my bedroom.”
While the entrepreneur-turned-TV shark joked that having separate bedrooms makes sex a “short thing,” she said the two still have special nights together — but it involves a different kind of intimacy.
“My idea of a special night with my husband is a good game of Scrabble. He’ll often say to me S or S, and I’ll say ‘Scrabble’ ’cause the first S means sex, and I say, ‘No, Scrabble,’ and I love beating him at Scrabble, and he loves beating me at Scrabble, and that’s a great night,” Corcoran shared.
This isn’t the first time she’s talked about the pleasure of having her own room.
In March, the “Shark Tank” personality said not sharing space with her husband keeps intimacy “fun.”
“I’ve had a separate bedroom with Bill for like 40 years,” she explained. “I have to invite him in — he invites me in occasionally.”
Corcoran also said it doesn’t just keep their sex life alive.
“He puts piles of stuff everywhere and I am very neat so I couldn’t sleep well at night,” she stated. “Now I sleep like a baby.”
Corcoran also mirrored the advice that Jen Garner’s mom gave her daughter about getting married.
“You really have to take your partner as they are and not hope through the marriage they’re going to change. Because they never do. You have to be satisfied! What you see is what you get,” Corcoran told Hello! in March.
