Batman: Caped Crusader Cut by HBO Max – IGN

The upcoming animated series Batman: The Caped Crusader will not be coming to HBO Max. According to TV Line, the Bruce Timm, Matt Reeves and JJ Abrams show is one of six animated titles pulled from HBO Max’s upcoming slate and will no longer be produced by the company.

However, all six would continue production with the intention of buying into the other studios.

Announced last year, Batman: The Caped Crusader is an interesting project — seemingly drawing inspiration from Tim’s earlier work on the hugely popular Batman: The Animated Series.

“We’re excited to be working together to bring this character back, telling captivating new stories in Gotham City,” the three producers said in a joint statement. “The series will be thrilling, cinematic and thought-provoking about Batman’s noir roots, while diving deeply into the psychology of these iconic characters. We can’t wait to share this new world.”

Considering Batman: The Animated Series appeared on HBO Max in January, it felt like a slam dunk for the online streaming service owned by Warner Bros. After all, for as long as I can remember, fans have been battling for more episodes of the animated series.

However, it looks like HBO Max parent company Warner Bros. Discovery is continuing its cost-cutting mission as it lays out projects across the board.

A side effect of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, the company has been canceling projects left, right and center since the high-profile cancellation of Batgirl. We’ve recently seen over 200 episodes of Sesame Street removed, along with 36 shows removed from the service.

As a cost-cutting measure, the cancellation and removal of shows is paving the way for the merger of the company’s two streaming services, HBO Max and Discovery+, which are now set to become one.
