The Grammys 2023 ceremony was something of a “take your husband to work day” situation, according to Ben Affleck.
The actor-director has finally responded to the viral Grammys moment when cameras caught him and his newlywed wife, Jennifer Lopez, appearing to get into a tiff.
Affleck, 50, recalls the incident as a typical “husband-and-wife thing,” despite spawning a barrage of memes.
“I saw [Grammy host Trevor Noah approach] and I was like, ‘Oh, God,’ they were framing us in this shot, but I didn’t know they were rolling,” the two-time Oscar winner told the Hollywood Reporter. “I leaned into her and I was like, ‘As soon they start rolling, I’m going to slide away from you and leave you sitting next to Trevor.’”
“You better f – – king not leave,” warned Lopez in response, according to her hubby.
Affleck continued to play doting husband even though his face appeared miserable after the “Let’s Get Loud” singer threatened him, saying, “‘All right, who is this act?’ Like, I don’t keep up. My wife does, obviously. And yeah, it is your wife’s work event.”
Overall, Affleck shared: “I had a good time at the Grammys. My wife was going, and I thought, ‘Well, there’ll be good music. It might be fun.’”
Lopez seems to be used to her husband’s apparent case of resting bro face, recently joking on Twitter about Affleck’s “happy face” during a trailer for his latest movie “AIR.”
Meanwhile, the director and co-star of the new film “Air” — the true-life tale of Nike’s creation of Michael Jordan’s iconic shoe line — has his survived his fair share of award shows, telling THR, “I’ve gone to award shows and been drunk, a bunch. Nobody ever once said I’m drunk.”
“[But at the Grammys] they were like, ‘He’s drunk.’ And I thought that’s interesting. That raises a whole other thing about whether or not it’s wise to acknowledge addiction because there’s a lot of compassion, but there is still a tremendous stigma, which is often quite inhibiting.”
Affleck struggled with alcohol abuse in the past but has recovered from his dark drinking days.
He previously raised eyebrows by appearing to blame his unhappy marriage to ex-wife Jennifer Garner, claiming “I probably still would’ve been drinking” if he was still with her, he said on SiriusXM’s “The Howard Stern Show” in 2021.
Now, he is happily married to 53-year-old “Let’s Get Loud” superstar Lopez, tying the knot in July 2022 after their on-and-off again relationship over the years.
They co-parent five children together from previous marriages and are reportedly moving in to a $64 million Pacific Palisades estate.
