Bindi Irwin gets asked many questions each time she meets fans – about her late father Steve, her relationship with brother Robert, and one in particular that she has felt the need to address publicly because it, quite frankly, makes her feel uncomfortable when having to answer it.
It’s the question about whether or not she and her husband Chandler Powell plan on having any more children.
Bindi and Chandler, who are parents to daughter Grace Warrior, 3, recently took to their Australia Zoo YouTube channel to host a little Q&A session with fans.
Fans wrote in questions ranging from what animals they’d like to introduce to their zoo, how often they visit America to how to heal from losing a loved one.
But when the question about whether the couple plans on giving Grace a baby brother or sister, Bindi took a moment to get extremely candid and set the record straight.
“I have a lot of feelings about this question”
In the second part of their video Q&A, Chandler took the mic to ask the question many people have been pestering the couple with for years.
“Are you two planning on having another child?” he reads, both with a smirk on their faces before carefully taking the time to answer tactfully.
Bindi turns to Chandler and asks: “How often do we get asked that question?” to which they both reply, “daily.”
Bindi admits she has “a lot of feelings” about this particular question but asked for her hubby to tackle it first before she got stuck into it.
“We get asked this question a lot and a lot of you may already know Bindi went through a big journey with endometriosis and basically it was an absolute miracle that we had Grace and we love Grace so much and are revelling in every little moment with her,” Chandler says.
“We are so happy with our little family of three,” he adds.
“You never know what’s happening inside someone’s life”
And with that, Bindi took over to clarify just exactly where they stand with extending the brood, but not before thanking people for being “curious” to see if they are in fact planning on having another child.
“I just do want to send it out there that be careful when you ask this question because you never know what’s happening in someone’s life, in a family’s world,” Bindi begins.
“You know, everything may seem fine on the outside and on the inside, their own personal journey might’ve been filled with turmoil and challenges that you can’t even fathom.
“While I understand why a lot of people ask us this question and I appreciate the kindness and good intent behind it, it’s also a really tricky question for many, many people who maybe can’t have another baby, can’t have a baby at all.”
“She will be our one child”
With that being said, Bindi finally admits that Grace will likely be their only child.
“We feel very lucky to have Grace. She is our beautiful girl but she will probably be our one child,” the mum admits.
“She will be our one child but you never know… maybe we will be blessed with another little one down the road. That would be incredible, but yeah, who knows…”
Before signing off, Bindi also wanted to explain how she hates Grace being referred to as their “only child” and prefers to refer to her as their “one child”.
“Argh, I do not like the word ‘only’. She is our one beautiful, perfect, amazing little girl and oh my goodness, every single day I think about how lucky we are to have her.”
The answer prompted a heap of fans to hit the comments section of the page to congratulate Bindi for answering the question so perfectly and for being so honest.
“I’m sure they get asked the baby question because they are obviously such marvelous parents. But Bindi’s answer was so wise and kind and a great reminder to be thoughtful about that issue,” one fan commented.
“Thank you for the way you replied to the fertility question. As someone who has had to deal with being questioned about having children ever since getting married and dealing with 4 miscarriages and a long journey with autoimmune disease, this message needs to be shared more to those who don’t think about how these questions impact people,” another struggling mama shared.
And another added: “You approached the baby question with such grace!”
