He can’t believe it.

Golden Globe winner Paul Giamatti was once embroiled in an epic game of phone tag with none other than Cher.

“There’s this thing around you that Cher is a huge fan of yours and she wants to speak to you and speak with you,” radio host Howard Stern said during Giamatti’s appearance on his show.

Giamatti, 56, acknowledged the statement, replying: “Every now and then I get a message from somebody that says Cher — not just [that she wants to talk to me] — she really needs to talk to me, like it’s important, like it’s crucial that she talks to me.”

“And I’m like, ‘What the f–k? Why does Cher want to talk to me?’” Giamatti continued on Wednesday. “And then a year will go by and it happens again.”

According to the “Holdovers” actor, he finally heard from the Oscar winner, 77, after several years of going back and forth.

“Somebody … did get in touch with her, and she did call me and leave a message on my phone,” he explained. “All she said was, ‘I hear you want to talk to me.’”

“That was it. That was all she said. And I left her a message and said, ‘That’s great, I’d love to talk to you, but I thought you wanted to talk to me.’ And that’s the last I heard, I haven’t heard anything again,” he continued.

To this day, Giamatti has no idea what the “DJ Play a Christmas Song” singer wanted.

“I have no f–king idea,” he added. “I don’t know what she could possibly want to talk to me about.”

The “Billions” star added that the mystery behind Cher’s request is “killing him.”

“I’m dying to know what she wants to talk to me about,” laughed Giamatti. “I mean, it would be great! I’d love to talk to her about anything. I don’t care, it’d be fantastic.”

The Post reached out to Cher for comment.

Recently, the “Moonstruck” actress has found herself in a legal battle after she petitioned to file a conservatorship for her son, Elijah Allman, in December and later claimed that her son was allegedly missing.

“[Cher] is concerned that any funds distributed to Elijah will immediately be spent on drugs, leaving Elijah with no assets to provide for himself, and putting Elijah’s life at risk,” January court docs read.

Marieangela King, Allman’s wife, blasted the “Song for the Lonely” singer, saying that she is a “manic depressive” and is unfit to control her son’s life and would seriously “jeopardize” his ongoing recovery.

[Cher] is not capable of managing her own affairs — let alone those of Elijah,” King, 36, stated in the document. “To my knowledge, the petitioner has never known the security code to her own home, does not drive, does not prepare her own meals or dress herself, and has admitted to me that she is a ‘manic depressive.’ ”

King further alleged that Cher’s personal assistant, Jennifer Ruiz, has taken over managing the affairs of the singer and would do the same to her husband if given the chance.

King believes that Allman does not need a conservator, but if the court appoints one, it “should not be [Cher].”

Allman, 47, has also refuted the need for a conservatorship.

“I could have demanded that my mandatory distributions be made to me directly as required by the trust, but I did not do so,” he wrote, referring to the trust fund left to him by his late father, Gregory Allman.

According to the musician, he voluntarily submitted to random drug testing three times — all of which have returned a negative result — this month to prove that he has been living a sober lifestyle and has been clean from “illicit substances” since October 2023. He’s also been “successfully managing” his finances.
