Chiefs owner’s wife is ‘so sick’ of the narrative that plagues team

Tavia Hunt is backing her team once again.

The wife of Chiefs owner and CEO Clark Hunt took to Instagram to call out a narrative around the team — that it always gets favorable calls — one she is “so sick” of.

In an Instagram story, she reshared a clip of defensive lineman Chris Jones appearing to be held in the end zone during a play on Sunday against the Raiders. He did not get a flag from officials.

“So sick of the past narrative that the Chiefs get all the calls. Stats don’t lie and neither does film — so I’m leaving this here,” she wrote below the video on Monday, a day after Kansas City’s 30-27 win over the Raiders.

For several years, the Chiefs have faced accusations of getting plum calls from NFL referees, getting more favorable calls than not. Hunt has continually pushed back on the notion.

The Chiefs’ level of dominance, winning three Super Bowls between 2019 and 2024, hasn’t helped quell the conspiracy.

“They love to credit the refs with our wins. But look at the actual facts,” Hunt said in January 2025.

However, after observing more than 13,000 penalty calls spanning from 2015-23, a research study done by the University of Texas at El Paso in October 2025, found that “postseason officiating has disproportionately favored the [Patrick] Mahomes-era Kansas City Chiefs, coinciding with their rise as one of the NFL’s most marketable franchises.”

The study also stated that when “the league’s financial health is at stake, rule enforcement may subtly shift to protect market appeal.”

After four weeks of 2026 games, the Chiefs rank as the 11th-most penalized team. They have been on the better side of 26 penalties this year, which puts them 24th out of 32 teams in the league.

Heading into their bye week, the Chiefs are 4-0 and are in first place of the AFC West. They needed a big defensive effort in the second half to hold of a Raiders’ comeback, and they delivered.

The bye week will allow them to regroup after Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton suffered injuries — the latter with a dislocated ankle. The team reached out to Tyreek Hill for a reunion in an effort to fill some holes.

Hunt, a former Miss Missouri Teen USA and Miss Kansas USA, met Clark Hunt while working as an intern for the Chiefs in 1991. They married in two years later.
