Has Chris Russo gone from “Mad Dog” to “Mad Fraud”?
The sports talk radio host is taking more high heat for backing out of yet another on-air promise.
Russo will apparently not follow through on a promise to walk a Manhattan block in a Diamondbacks-branded bikini.
The idea was the brainchild of shock jock Howard Stern, who was trying to help Russo after he decided not to fulfill an on-air promise to retire if Arizona beat the Phillies in Games 6 and 7 of the NLCS.
Naturally, Arizona did just that, but Russo did not retire.
And after his latest decision to walk back the bikini agreement, Stern seemed fed up with Russo.
“I’m really fond of the guy, but he really f–ked up,” Stern said on his Sirius XM Radio program. “I’m out of it. I don’t care. He can do whatever he wants.
“Let him deal with it.”
Stern also read angry listener comments on air in a clip posted by Awful Announcing, with one person suggesting that Stern change up Russo’s well-known nickname.
“I think you should call him Chris ‘Mad Fraud’ Russo,” one commenter wrote, which Stern read on-air.
Stern called the new nickname cold as co-host Robin Quivers laughed in the background.
“Oh, he would go nuts,” Stern added.
Russo has taken his lumps since backing out of his original pledge to retire “on the spot” if Arizona advanced to the World Series.
The Diamondbacks playfully poked fun at him on social media earlier this week as he did his MLB Network show “High Heat” live from Chase Field.
He also hosted Diamondbacks president Derrick Hall on the program, and the executive roasted Russo with a spot-on impersonation of the radio personality.
Russo still may get the last laugh, as the Rangers sit one win away from defeating the Diamondbacks for the World Series title.
Though don’t look for him to guarantee the Diamondbacks demise again.
