Prolific action movie star Danny Trejo shows off his more academic side in his new History Channel show, “Mysteries Unearthed With Danny Trejo.”

“I hate to admit it, but I think history, science, geography are the only classes I ever got a good grade in,” Trejo, 80, told The Post.

Premiering Friday, Dec. 6 at 10 p.m., “Mysteries Unearthed With Danny Trejo” is hosted and narrated by the “Machete” actor. Each episode explores the hidden history behind various underground mysteries including hidden treasures, secret military bunkers, and dark underworlds.

Trejo said that his interest in the topic dates back to his childhood in Los Angeles. When he was in fourth grade, he enjoyed learning about the Pueblo Indians and the Amazon river from his teacher, Mrs. Kinley.

“Fifty years later, I’m on the Amazon river doing a movie called ‘Anaconda,’ with J-Lo, Jon Voight and Eric Stoltz and Ice Cube. And they’re all asking questions while going down the Amazon River. And I knew the answers,” Trejo said.

Trejo, who spent years cycling in and out of prison before his Hollywood career – for crimes including drug dealing and armed robbery – said that his “Anaconda” co-stars were surprised by his knowledge of the region’s history. “They were like, ‘What? I thought you were a gangster!’”

The “Spy Kids” actor said that his unusual background helped prepare him for his showbiz career, which includes over 400 credits to date.

Trejo has been in “From Dusk Till Dawn,” “Heat,” “Once Upon A Time in Mexico,” and a slew of other iconic action movie staples. He’s also been in TV shows such as “Breaking Bad” and “Sons of Anarchy.”

In one of his first movies, 1985’s “Runaway Train,” he plays a criminal.

“Then after that, all I played was gangsters and convicts,” he said.

“And it was funny to me, because I had done everything that I was playing.”

The “Deseprado” actor said that during one movie, “the director said, ‘Danny, I want you to kick in this door, and you’re going to rob this poker game. And you have a sawed-off shotgun.’”

After filming the scene, Trejo recalled that the director said, ‘My God. Where did you study?’ I said, ‘Safeway…Bank of America….,’” referring to past robberies in his youth.

“I’ve done all that stuff! That’s where I got my training, really.”

“You know what, it’s like, the amount of guys who are 50 years old that have stopped walking or stopped getting off the couch….You’ve just gotta keep moving,” he told the Post.

Trejo recalled filming a recent movie where he was relaxing with another actor his age between takes.

“This guy comes in, and said, ‘Man, I thought you old geezers would have retired by now.’ I said, ‘Old geezer? I’ll beat your ass!’”
