I saw Kylie Minogue’s Las Vegas Voltaire residency. Here are my thoughts

We “Can’t Get You Out of my Head” and by “you” we mean Kylie Minogue after seeing her new aptly named ‘More Than Just A Residency’ residency at Las Vegas’ swanky Venetian Hotel.

‘More Than A Residency,’ which is actually equal parts burlesque, acrobatics, variety show and Kylie, is now at the venue’s Voltaire theater, which some may argue was an interesting choice for a residency.

The stage is small, and the first level of seating is completely made up of tables, making for a more intimate setting, should you opt for the premium experience. Then, the rest of the room, which is no larger than a medium-sized night club, is standing room only, between the tables and the long stretch of bar at the back (serving up Kylie’s wine label, of course.)

Our recommendation is to either 1) get there early to secure a good spot in the standing room section and stay put for the night or 2) shell out the extra cash for a table, with better views and the ability to sit down — you’ll need it!

As for the entertainment, the lively show kicks off with an emcee who evokes a P.T. Barnum-type of circus showmanship.

For roughly the first 90 minutes, he leads the audience through nearly a dozen short acts, ranging from nearly nude burlesque performers to a pair of strongmen launching each other into the air with brute force.

Then, the evening’s main attraction arrives.

Around 11 p.m., Kylie takes the stage and launched into her set, albeit a bit later in the evening than expected.

Still, Minogue, 55, shone as bright as ever in the Vegas lights, making her more than worth the wait.

Over 18 songs, made up of a combination of new and old classics like “Padam, Padam” and “The Loco-Motion,” Minogue electrified the late night crowd.

Pro tip: Make sure to bring dancing shoes. Based on what we saw, even the patrons at the luxury tables stood up to dance for almost every song in her set, only stopping between acts to refill their beverages.

Final verdict

All in all, for Kylie fans or for those who love a more intimate nightclub setting with very “Vegas-only” entertainment, this residency is 100% for you and unlike anything else currently on the Strip.

Kylie Minogue new music

On Sept. 22, Minogue released her 16th studio album “Tension.”

Comprised of two discs and 14 tracks, the 45-minute offering is full of pop confections that you, ahem, won’t be able to get out of your head.

After getting underway with the slinky “Padam Padam,” Minogue sets an energetic tone that stretches all the way through to the anthemic closer “Somebody To Love.”

In between, we fell in love with the radio-ready title track “Tension,” upbeat disco-y “One More Time” that wouldn’t be out of place in a workout class rotation and the apropos “Vegas High.”

You can listen to the party-starting “Tension” in full here.
