I took my neighbor’s toddler on vacation without telling her — it was a mistake

Baby’s week out!

A British babysitter has gone viral with a video on TikTok about how she once took her neighbors’ toddler on vacation for a week, calling the 1991 incident “the biggest mistake I ever made.”

The video has reached nearly 2 million views since it was posted last Thursday.

The woman — who goes by @seenasyouasked on TikTok — said when she was a 20-year-old newlywed she would occasionally help her neighbors with their 2-year-old boy.

“Could you look after my son, and would you mind having him overnight because I’m going to go away for the evening?” the babysitter recalled the neighbor once asking.

“‘Problem is,’ I said, ‘I’m actually going on holiday on Tuesday.’ “

The TikToker said that despite telling her neighbor she was leaving Tuesday for a week, the mother still dropped the toddler off Monday.

“Monday comes along. She drops off this sweet little boy — he’s really lovely, he stayed overnight,” the TikTok user said.

“Early Tuesday morning, we all packed up in the car. I popped him in his car seat. We drove off to London — we lived in Birmingham … stayed in a hotel. I got the hotel to give us a little cot.”

“He was so lovely. I got him food and bought some extra nappies. (The mother) hadn’t sent enough nappies for the week, and I just went through the week with this little lad,” reminisced the babysitter.

“During the day, I took him to the zoo, walked around Hyde Park. We had a blast!”

“He loved it. He slept really well. He didn’t cry at night. Everything was great,” she added.

The woman said she was unable to call the child’s parents to let them know her whereabouts because she didn’t have a cell phone at the time. She also had only spoken with the mother in person, so she didn’t have her number.

“So I bought postcards, and everyday I wrote a postcard, posted it to her address, just so she’d know everything was OK and the kid was fine,” the babysitter said.

According to the babysitter the child's parents were bewildered but ok with the unplanned vacation.

The TikToker revealed that the toddler’s unexpected trip was well-received by his parents.

“So lovely of you — really wonderful,” the mother allegedly told the babysitter when she returned from vacation.

“I do have to say something, though. … ‘When I said, “That’s fine,” I meant I’ll come back Tuesday morning before you go and get him.”

The babysitter said she apologized profusely.

“Thank God I sent the postcards! … I was like, ‘Oh my God, I’m so sorry! I can’t believe I took your kid,’ ” the babysitter recalled.

“No, I had a great time, thanks, lovely break for the week,” the mother allegedly replied.

Other TikTok users weighed in on the incident.

“This would not have gone down the same way today,” one user said.

“How do I have this kind of mixup with my toddler?” joked another.

“I love how you just took a kid on holidays with no questions. Glad it worked out on all parts though,” said a third person.
