Kanye West sucker-punched diner at LA hotspot Chateau Marmont: suit

Kanye West is being sued for allegedly sucker-punching a man at the Chateau Marmont last year, knocking him unconscious before repeatedly punching him as he lay defenseless on the ground, according to a Los Angeles lawsuit.

The unidentified plaintiff — suing as John Doe — filed the complaint in Los Angeles County Superior Court accusing the rapper, now known as Ye, of battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress stemming from the April 16, 2024 incident at the iconic West Hollywood hotspot.

According to the complaint, Ye approached the plaintiff’s table in the garden area of the private dining venue around 11 p.m. and, without warning, punched him in the face.

The blow allegedly knocked the man to the ground, where he struck his head and lost consciousness.

The suit claims Ye then repeatedly punched the plaintiff while he was unconscious on the concrete floor, allegedly causing serious physical injuries that required medical treatment.

The plaintiff alleges he did nothing to provoke the attack and did not consent to any physical contact.

Ye later accused the plaintiff of engaging in offensive and inappropriate conduct toward a woman in Ye’s party and repeated those claims publicly, exposing the plaintiff to “public scorn, suspicion, and ridicule,” according to the complaint.

The plaintiff claims video evidence from the scene shows he did not engage in any inappropriate conduct toward anyone in Ye’s group.

The plaintiff says he suffered severe emotional distress, anxiety, humiliation, and harm to his professional relationships as a result of the alleged assault and subsequent statements.

Ye claims the confrontation stemmed from an incident involving his wife, Bianca Censori. In an interview on TheDownload podcast, the rapper claimed a man grabbed Censori as she walked to the restroom at the Chateau Marmont, prompting him to confront the individual.

“My wife is walking to the bathroom at the Chateau and this guy just grabbed my wife,” Ye said. “She explained to me what happened so I walked over and found him… I talked to the guy like you just need to leave… and I’m like no it’s not ok, it wasn’t ok.”

He added, “Then he started… had to go to bed early — tucked this n–a in,” appearing to reference the alleged altercation.

The plaintiff is seeking damages including punitive damages, economic losses, non-economic damages, and compensation for medical expenses and emotional distress, according to the complaint.
