Kate Middleton to attend Wimbledon men’s final amid cancer battle: palace

Back in the swing of things.

Kate Middleton will attend the full Wimbledon men’s final match on Sunday, Kensington Palace has confirmed.

The face-off between Novak Djokovic and reigning champ Carlos Alcaraz will mark the Princess of Wales’ second public appearance of 2024 as she continues cancer treatment, following an abdominal surgery in January.

She previously made headlines by appearing at last month’s Trooping the Color, the traditional celebration of the monarch’s birthday.

The mom of three, 42, will not be in the Royal Box for the women’s championship match between Barbora Krejčíková and Jasmine Paolini on Saturday.

Kate has been the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, which hosts the grass court tournament, since 2016. She has attended Wimbledon most years since her 2011 wedding to Prince William, and typically presents the winner’s trophy.

Last year, Kate sat at Centre Court with William, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte in tow, the latter charming the audiences with her Wimbledon debut.

The women’s championship award will instead be presented Saturday by Wimbledon Chair Debbie Jevans on the Princess of Wales’ behalf, Kensington Palace said.

Tournament officials were “hopeful” Kate would be able to present the trophies, but understood her health was the “priority,” Jevans told Telegraph Sport last month.

Also on Sunday, Prince William, 42, will attend the Euro 2024 final in Berlin to watch England face off against Spain, the palace said.

The Prince of Wales – who is president of the Football Association – will be joined by Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, who was sworn in last week.

While Kate Middleton appears to be slowly easing back into select official engagements, palace aides have repeatedly insisted she has no official return to work date and has not formally returned to public life in the wake of her health crisis.
