It was a family affair on the All-Star red carpet for what was the final time.
Kate Upton and Justin Verlander made a rare family appearance on Tuesday night in Philadelphia, going all in on the festivities ahead of what was the righty hurler’s final All-Star Game.
Upton, 34, wore a short, off-the-shoulder white dress with gold heels and sunglasses alongside a blue-suited Verlander, 43, paired with a white shirt and sunglasses.
Daughter Genevieve, who was born in 2018, shined in a white two-piece set with a white headband and silver shoes. Verlander held the couple’s son, Bellamy, who wore brown overalls.
The family came together for the event after Verlander announced his retirement via social media last week.
“I want to thank the Commissioner for the incredible honor of being selected to the All-Star Game,” Verlander wrote. “The opportunity to attend once again is something I’ll cherish, and it will be an incredibly special moment for me and my family.
“This season has challenged me in ways I haven’t experienced before, both physically and mentally. I’ve always believed that as long as I could compete at the level I expect of myself, I’d keep playing. I never wanted to retire because of a milestone, a number, or a date on the calendar. I wanted the game to tell me when it was time. Over the last several months, I’ve realized that time has come.”
He went on to thank those closest to him, most notably Upton.
“To my family, especially my wife Kate [Upton], thank you for standing beside me through every season, every rehab, and every high and low,” he said. “I couldn’t have done this without you. It’s time for the next chapter. But first, I’m excited to finish this season the only way I know how — with everything I’ve got.”
Upton and Verlander met while filming a commercial in 2012, and the two went on to get engaged in 2016.
The couple tied the knot on Nov. 4, 2017, which was just days after Verlander won the World Series with the Astros, beating the Dodgers 4-3.
A year later, Genevieve was born only three days after the couple’s first wedding anniversary.
The three-time Cy Young Award winner was named to his 10th All-Star team for his final season. He did not play as he is dealing with a lingering hamstring injury.
This season, Verlander has only recorded one start for the Tigers, the team that drafted him in 2004. His final season has been largely filled with injuries.
However, he soaked in the atmosphere at Citizens Bank Park to enjoy the event one final time as a player.
