Mom’s ‘trampoline of death’ has TikTok freaking out

If you don’t have childhood memories of jumping on a backyard trampoline and someone getting stuck in the springs/breaking a bone… were you ever even a child?

Looking back, risky behavior on a trampoline was like a rite of passage… but there’s no doubt those springy-steel monsters helped us challenge the laws of physics with terrifying consequences.

This is why in 2023 the internet’s been left AGOG that one mom has invented “The Trampoline of Death.”

She posted her clip on TikTok, and it’s been stitched by a paramedic/fireman/professional safety guy… who’s saying what we’re all thinking:

DEAR GOD NO!

Won’t somebody think of the children?

“Just like a slip n’ slide”

In the original TikTok, a mom recommends “a trampoline, sprinkler, and dish soap” to “entertain your kid for more than an hour.”

She adds enthusiastically as she rubs her hands in the foam, “This makes the trampoline so slippery, just like a slip n’ slide!”

A bouncy slip and slide… as though that’s a good thing.

The clip also shows a little boy running around and jumping in the white stuff – miraculously uninjured.

“Trampoline of death”

At this point, TikTokker @tisoka16522302 jumps in.

“Do you know an ambulance ride to the hospital costs $6000, and taking care of a kid with two broken legs will really make you question your parenting choices like making a SLIP N’ SLIDE TRAMPOLINE OF DEATH.”

The male paramedic captioned his clip, “Doing this will really spice up your summer. Well, if you consider going to the hospital ‘spicy’.”

And if you think he’s being dramatic, let’s look at the comments on the video.

“Funny story! I ran this call [in the ED] yesterday. The patient ended up with one broken leg and a broken humerus and clavicle, sibling had a nosebleed and a shiner,” a doctor reported.

"Do you know an ambulance ride to the hospital costs $6000, and taking care of a kid with two broken legs will really make you question your parenting choices like making a SLIP N' SLIDE TRAMPOLINE OF DEATH," he said in the clip.

Another viewer commented, “This has gotta be one of the least safe things I can think to do with a trampoline. Someone’s kid is about to get busted up.”

And a third added, “Can confirm this exact scenario cost me a trip to the hospital.”

Thousands of responses were in a similar vein, but there were some suggestions to up the fear factor, like this one:

“In the 90s we put the trampoline right next to the swimming pool…. the 90s were wild y’all.”

And this: “Me and my brothers – no netting, and we added a basketball hoop.”

Naturally, the debate turned to whether trampolines are safe at all, with one person writing: “Broken legs is the best case 😳. I was a source competitive trampolinist in my day, I’ve witnessed a broken neck…with no dish soap involved.”
