A Monopoly match in Belgium turned into a bloodbath — and not in the figurative board game sense — after a perturbed neighbor confronted the players with a samurai sword.
The fracas occurred at around 5 am on April 2 while a group of four gamers was playing the classic strategy game outside on the sidewalk in Forest, Brussels, per local outlet La Libre.
The noise reportedly awoke the neighbors, who came outside brandishing a stick at the rowdy players, who may have been homeless, according to the French rag Midi Libre.
This resulted in a heated altercation, which escalated after the neighbor’s son emerged from the residence with a katana, a super keen curved sword traditionally used by the Samurai in feudal Japan.
The son got into a tussle with one of the players, who “tried to grab the katana and removed the holster,” police said, per La Libre.
When the son “tried to get it back,” the scabbard became damaged and exposed the blade, slicing both of them, Insider reported.
Both men were transported to the hospital with serious injuries, although the Monopoly player was discharged the next day.
Meanwhile, the son, who sustained a deep artery cut during the scuffle, remains at the facility in critical condition, the Daily Mail reported.
This isn’t the first time someone has been attacked with a samurai sword in modern times.
In October, a dogwalker was stabbed with the Japanese-edged weapon and her pet was killed in a seemingly unprovoked attack in Los Angeles.
In an incident closer to home in 2021, the NYPD arrested a katana-wielding man after he punched an officer on the Upper East Side in Manhattan.
