We all know the drill when it comes to Elf on the Shelf.
For 24 days, the elf “moves” around your house, making mischief and supposedly keeping an eye out for Santa.
But this is the age of posting everything online, so of course an elf can’t just move.
It can’t just go from sitting on one dining chair to a different dining chair.
Everything has to be over-the-top, it has to one-up everyone you know and don’t know, and it has to have an accompanying viral TikTok.
Perhaps that’s what Maddie’s husband was thinking when he took over Elf on the Shelf duties and put the family elf on the chandelier with its plastic face pressed against the hot incandescent light bulb.
“When your husband is in charge of the Elf on the Shelf,” she captioned a TikTok.
The video shows Maddie’s hand retrieving the elf from its spot on the chandelier and showing its melted, blackened face.
With over 44 million views, at least her husband got a viral TikTok out of it.
“At least it didn’t start a fire,” Maddie wrote.
Followers thought the dad’s fail was hilarious.
“Burning the house down is the ultimate Elf on the Shelf naughty deed,” one person wrote.
“Well at least he can’t see what the kids are up to,” wrote another.
“He must be friends with my toddler who put the elf in the toaster,” a third person said.
