Pancake syrup with bizarre warning label leaves shopper stumped: ‘Keep away from tractor’

This one got sauced in translation.

A flummoxed shopper posted a photo of a maple syrup bottle with a stumper of a warning label to a popular message board — and found themselves inundated with sweetly funny responses.

“Do not freeze and keep away from tractor and sun,” read the front of the container, offered as evidence at the start of a lively discussion thread on Reddit.

Redditors appeared to be similarly baffled by the unusual caution, with many internet comedians floating humorous theories regarding the alleged meaning of the label on the Super Tasty brand bottle, distributed by United Arab Emirates-based AWS Foods.

“High RPM, no shielding. They’re dangerous,” joked one commenter. “All it takes is a loose, syrup covered, sleeve to get caught in there and you lose an arm.”

“How quickly we forget,” quipped another. “Doesn’t anyone remember the Great Tractor Syrup tragedy of 63.”

A third joked about the perils of driving tractors while on the “sauce,” writing, “Many farmers have been known to drink a bottle or two while working….even a small amount of syrup can affect driving ability.”

“Can’t operate heavy machinery on syrup,” said a fourth.

Finally, one Redditor, who professed to be fluent in Arabic, pointed out that the label was the result of a translation error and was not, in fact, a warning about driving under the influence of pancake toppings.

“There is a dot that shouldn’t be in the Arabic — الجرارة should be الحرارة,” they clarified.

“That means ‘keep away from heat’, not tractors.”

Another wrote surmised that the “translator went for the typo instead of verifying the original word.”

This isn’t the only recent high-profile translation fail.

In a less humorous incident last October, a tourist in Portugal using a translation app accidentally sparked a bomb scare by mixing up the local word for “pomegranate” at a restaurant.

The man even wrote down his request for a fruity drink, in order to make things easier for the waitstaff.

Unfortunately, he had written the Portuguese word for “grenade” instead.
